    Picatinny rails for Blaser

    Picatinny rails for Blaser

    Introduction

Blaser has revolutionized the way riflescopes are mounted on the rifles by introducing a unique mounting system. Most Blaser rifles (R8, R93, B95/B97, D99, K95, S2, BBF95/97 and many others) have four notches on the barrel, the dimensions of which are the same on every Blaser rifle that uses this mounting system. Blaser is one of the first rifle manufacturing companies that introduced the barrel-mounting system.

    Picatinny rails for Blaser rifles

Blaser's system works great – it is repeatable and allows plenty of combinations. There is a problem though – for optics such as night vision riflescopes, thermal riflescopes, riflescopes with tubes of a non-standard diameter, and riflescopes with a non-standard mounting rail underneath, the offer of mounts on the market is scarce. Since the majority of these optics can be mounted on a Picatinny rail, the solution is obvious.

For the user who wishes to have a Picatinny rail on a Blaser rifle, achieving that will be more difficult and expensive than with other rifles. Mount manufacturers mostly have two categories of Picatinny rails for Blaser in their offer.

Fixed Picatinny rails for Blaser rifles

The first category is fixed Picatinny rails. With one of these, the user can transform the four notch platform into a Picatinny platform, achieving the possibility of mounting most optical devices on it.

Detachable Picatinny rails for Blaser rifles

The second category is detachable Picatinny rails. These work like all other mounts designed for a four-notch Blaser mounting system. The optic mounted on the rail can be quickly removed and put back on. This is great when the user has two different optical devices (a thermal or night vision riflescope and a day riflescope, for example). They can be switched between one another without having to re-zero every time.

Extended Picatinny rails for Blaser rifles

In both cases (fixed and detachable), Picatinny rails are available in standard and extended versions. They can be extended backward like the ones made by MAK (MAKuick) and INNOmount – most night vision optics have a short eye relief and have to be mounted back so that they are closer to the user's eye. They can also be extended forward, all the way up to the tip of the rifle's barrel. With these, a full-length Picatinny rail flat top is achieved. It allows mounting of a riflescope with a clip-on attached to the objective lens. Contessa and MAK have the most Picatinny rails of this kind in their offer.

Picatinny rails for Blaser rifles meant for the mounting of red dot sights

Many red dot sights are designed to fit on a Picatinny rail as standard. Some mount manufacturers make short Picatinny rails for Blaser rifles which are meant for the mounting of red dot sights. The most popular rails of this kind are made by INNOmount and Blaser, even though the latter has not been included in Blaser's catalog in the recent years. The one made by Blaser was fixed and known for its low-profile design. INNOmount Slight, as the INNOmount named their short Picatinny rail, is detachable and sits a little higher on the rifle because of the integrated mechanism for repeatability.
