Pentax DCF ED 10x43 Product description

  • ED optical system: Extra-low-dispersion glass helps suppress color fringing on high-contrast edges, so distant birds, game and fine detail appear cleaner and easier to resolve.
  • 10x43 configuration: The 10x magnification gives more reach for open-country observation, while the 43 mm objective keeps the binocular compact enough for regular field carry.
  • Roof prism design with phase coating: The Schmidt/Pechan roof prism layout keeps the body slim, and phase correction helps preserve contrast and detail that matter when identifying subjects quickly.
  • 17 mm eye relief: The generous eye relief makes the binocular easier to use with glasses and supports a more relaxed viewing position during longer sessions.
  • Waterproof, nitrogen-filled construction: Sealed, fogproof housing maintains a clear view when moving between temperatures or working in wet weather.

About the Pentax DCF ED Series

The Pentax DCF ED series was developed as a premium roof-prism binocular family for users who wanted a compact field format without giving up optical refinement. The range comprised 8x32, 8x43, 10x43 and 10x50 models, covering everything from general wildlife observation to longer-range glassing in more open terrain. Across the series, Pentax used center focusing with internal focusing, a layout that keeps handling straightforward and helps maintain a well-sealed body for field use.

A defining feature of the line is its use of ED glass to reduce chromatic aberration, which improves edge definition and makes fine detail easier to separate against bright backgrounds. The series also used phase-coated roof prisms and hybrid aspherical lens elements, combining the slim profile of a roof-prism binocular with the cleaner image structure and better control of distortion expected in higher-grade hunting optics and bird watching binoculars. Waterproof, nitrogen-filled construction rounded out the design, making the DCF ED family suitable for year-round outdoor use where changing weather and temperature shifts are part of normal conditions.

About the Pentax DCF ED 10x43

The Pentax DCF ED 10x43 is the longer-reaching model in the compact 43 mm part of the series, aimed at users who need more detail at distance without moving to a larger 50 mm binocular. Its 10x magnification is well suited to scanning hillsides, shorelines and open woodland edges, where extra image scale helps with identification. At the same time, the 43 mm objective lens and 4.30 mm exit pupil keep the binocular practical for extended daytime use and useful into lower light.

The optical system combines ED glass, fully multicoated lenses and a roof prism with phase coating to improve contrast and reduce distracting color fringing. In practical terms, that means cleaner outlines on branches, feathers and antlers, and a more controlled image when viewing dark subjects against bright sky. The 105.00 m/1000m field of view gives enough width for tracking movement, while the 2.00 m close focus also makes the binocular versatile for nearby observation.

Handling is designed around field practicality. The central focusing system allows quick adjustment with either hand, while the right-eyepiece diopter lets the binocular be matched to the user’s eyesight. 17.00 mm eye relief supports comfortable use with glasses, and the single-hinge body remains easy to carry. Waterproof, fogproof, nitrogen-filled construction adds reliability in rain, cold mornings and changing temperatures, making this a strong fit for hunting binoculars and general wildlife observation.

About Pentax

Pentax traces its history to 1919, when Asahi Optical Joint Stock Co. was founded in Otsuka, Tokyo. The company began as an optical manufacturer producing eyeglass lenses and binoculars, and that background remains relevant in its long-standing focus on practical optical design. In 2011, Ricoh acquired HOYA’s imaging-system businesses, including cameras and binoculars, and Pentax binocular products are now manufactured and marketed by Ricoh Imaging Company, Ltd., headquartered in Tokyo, Japan.

Within sport optics, Pentax is known for applying camera-industry optical know-how to binoculars, including full multi-coating on lens surfaces and prism incident-light surfaces. Its binocular range has covered compact, general-purpose and premium ED models, with particular attention to weather resistance, roof-prism construction and field usability. That makes Pentax a familiar name for users looking for Japanese-designed optics with a strong emphasis on image quality and durable outdoor use.
