Crimson Trace Brushline 4-12x40 BDC

• 4-12x magnification range: Covers the practical middle ground for hunting rifles, giving a wide enough view for shorter shots at 4x and the added precision needed for smaller targets or longer holds at 12x.
• CT Custom BDC reticle: The second-focal-plane BDC layout uses diamond aiming references that help with holdover, making it easier to place shots at varying distances without dialing every correction.
• 40 mm objective with fully multicoated lenses: Balances manageable size with useful light transmission, helping maintain a clear sight picture in the low-light periods when game is often most active.
• 1-inch aluminum tube and capped turrets: Keeps the scope trim and easy to mount while protecting adjustments from accidental movement during transport, stalking, or rough field handling.
• Nitrogen-filled waterproof, fogproof and shockproof construction: Supports reliable use in changing weather and over repeated recoil, so the optic stays serviceable in typical hunting conditions.

About the Crimson Trace Brushline Series

The Crimson Trace Brushline series sits in the company’s riflescope range as a dedicated hunting scope family, distinct from the Brushline Pro line and built around straightforward field use. Crimson Trace catalogs five Brushline models, with configurations centered on the magnification ranges and objective sizes most hunters actually use: 3-9x or 4-12x paired with 40 mm or 50 mm objectives. That keeps the series focused on practical stalking, stand hunting, and general-purpose centerfire use rather than specialized competition setups.

A defining trait of the series is its second-focal-plane design with 1-inch tubes and non-illuminated reticles. Within that format, Brushline models use CT Custom BDC or CT Custom BDC Rimfire reticles, giving shooters options for centerfire or rimfire trajectories while preserving a familiar hunting-style sight picture. The standard CT Custom BDC reticle uses diamond aiming references that provide multiple hold points within each shape, which suits hunters who want faster distance compensation without moving to a more tactical turret-driven optic. Overall, the Brushline concept emphasizes manageable weight, simple controls, and a reticle system intended to be useful in the field rather than visually busy on the range.

About the Crimson Trace Brushline 4-12x40 BDC

The Crimson Trace Brushline 4-12x40 BDC is a versatile hunting riflescope built for shooters who want one optic to cover a broad spread of real field distances. Its 4-12x magnification range gives enough low-end view for quick target acquisition in broken terrain while still providing the extra image scale needed for more deliberate shot placement across open ground. Paired with a 40.00 mm objective, the scope stays relatively trim on the rifle, which matters when carrying a hunting setup over longer distances or through dense cover.

The scope uses a second-focal-plane CT Custom BDC reticle with no illumination, a configuration that favors a clean sight picture in daylight hunting conditions. Because the reticle remains visually consistent as magnification changes, it stays easy to read at both the low and high end of the zoom range. The BDC layout is intended to simplify holdover decisions, helping the shooter work across changing distances without relying entirely on turret dialing.

Mechanically, this model follows a practical hunting format with capped turrets, 65.00 MOA of elevation and windage adjustment, and side-focus parallax adjustment set for the BDC version at 100. The capped design reduces the chance of unintentional adjustment in the field, while side focus helps sharpen the image and minimize aiming error as distances change. A 25.4 mm tube, nitrogen filling, and waterproof, fogproof, shockproof construction round out a scope designed for dependable use in changing weather and normal recoil conditions.

About Crimson Trace

Crimson Trace was established in 1994 and built its reputation around firearm aiming and illumination systems. The company is especially known for laser sight products such as Lasergrips, Laserguard, and Rail Master, along with the Lightguard line of firearm-mounted lights. A key part of its identity is Instinctive Activation, a system that uses pressure-pad placement to engage the device with a normal shooting grip rather than requiring a separate control sequence.

Alongside lasers and lights, Crimson Trace also offers riflescopes and rangefinders, extending its focus from close-range aiming aids into broader hunting and shooting optics. The company operates a facility in Columbia, Missouri, United States, and its product range reflects long-standing involvement in firearm-mounted sighting equipment. In the riflescope category, that background shows in products designed around practical field handling, straightforward controls, and reticle systems intended for real shooting use rather than purely technical specification depth.
