Bushnell Engage 4-12x40

• 4-12x magnification range: Covers the practical middle ground for stalking, mountain hunting, and general-purpose centerfire use, giving a wide enough view at 4x for closer shots and more precision at 12x when distance opens up.
• Side-focus parallax adjustment: Lets the image and reticle stay properly aligned from 9 - Infinity, which helps maintain aiming precision as shooting distances change.
• Second focal plane reticle: Keeps the reticle visually consistent through the zoom range, making it easy to pick up at low power while still offering a familiar sight picture at higher magnification.
• Fully multicoated optics: Improve light transmission and contrast for a clearer image in poor weather and low-light periods when game is most active.
• IPX-7 waterproof, fogproof construction: The nitrogen-filled scope is built to stay usable through rain, temperature changes, and rough field handling, reducing the chance of a fogged or compromised optic.

About the Bushnell Engage Series

The Bushnell Engage series was introduced in 2017 as a versatile riflescope family for shooters who split their time between the range and the field. In Bushnell’s lineup, Engage models sit as practical, feature-rich optics that bring more refined adjustment systems and hunting-ready optical performance than basic entry-level scopes, while remaining focused on real-world use rather than specialist competition setups.

A defining trait of the series is its mix of configurations. Engage riflescopes include both capped-adjustment and exposed-turret variants, allowing the line to serve traditional hunting rifles as well as more precision-oriented setups. The series uses fully multi-coated optics to maintain image brightness and contrast, and many variants also feature EXO Barrier, Bushnell’s protective lens coating that helps shed water, oil, dust, and debris. Reticle options within the family are designed around practical holdovers, including the Deploy MOA pattern with elevation and windage references for more deliberate shot placement. Overall, the Engage series is built around straightforward mechanics, useful reticle design, and field durability.

About the Bushnell Engage 4-12x40

The Bushnell Engage 4-12x40 is a compact hunting riflescope built around a magnification range that suits the way many centerfire rifles are actually used. At 4x, it remains manageable for shorter opportunities in woodland, broken terrain, or from a high seat. At 12x, it gives the shooter enough image scale for more careful shot placement across open ground, making it a sensible fit for stalking and mountain hunting where distances can change quickly.

This model uses a 40.00 mm objective lens and fully multicoated optics to balance light gathering with a trim overall profile. The result is a scope that mounts neatly on lighter hunting rifles without becoming top-heavy, while still delivering a clear, usable image in the low-light periods when game movement often increases. Its 9.60 m/100m to 3.30 m/100m field of view reflects that same balance between situational awareness at low power and target discrimination at higher magnification.

The SFP reticle keeps the reticle size unchanged as magnification changes, which many hunters prefer because the aiming point stays easy to see at lower settings. A side-focus parallax adjustment from 9 - Infinity helps sharpen the image and reduce aiming error at varying distances, while capped turrets protect the settings from accidental movement during transport or hard use in the field. With a 25.4 mm tube, IPX-7 waterproof construction, nitrogen filling, and a weight of 570.00 g, this riflescope is configured for dependable day-to-day hunting use rather than bench-only shooting.

About Bushnell

Bushnell was founded in 1948 by Dave Bushnell, who began selling optical products from a photographic shop in Pasadena, California. The company built its name around practical sports optics for outdoor use and has long focused on equipment for hunting, target shooting, birding, and nature observation. Its catalog spans riflescopes, binoculars, red dot sights, rangefinders, spotting scopes, and trail cameras, reflecting a broad specialization in field optics rather than a single niche.

Within riflescopes and hunting optics, Bushnell is known for combining straightforward mechanical design with useful proprietary features such as EXO Barrier, a lens coating developed to repel water, oil, dust, and debris. The brand’s lineup includes established families such as Legend, Prime, Elite Tactical, AR Optics, and Engage, covering everything from general hunting use to more specialized tactical and precision applications. That breadth has made Bushnell a familiar name for shooters who want proven optics with a strong emphasis on practical field performance.
