With its very wide field of view and moderate 8x magnification, the 8x36 Vortex Solo monocular performs best at closer ranges giving you bright clear views and making it easier to locate and then follow fast-moving subjects like birds.
The 8x36 configuration generates a reasonably wide 4.5mm exit-pupil. This is a little small for extreme low light use, but along with their fully multi-coated optics makes them a more than a competent performer in poor conditions that you may experience during the day or in thickly wooded areas or forests where light conditions may be less than ideal.
These main optical characteristics, as well as their small body shape and low weight, make this monocular an excellent choice for the outdoors enthusiast, photographer or hunter interested in observing birds or larger wildlife and who needs a low cost and easy to carry optical device.
A real strength on this 8x32 Solo is the long 18mm of eye relief. This in combination with the adjustable twist-up eyecup makes it a great option for the eyeglass wearer.
Note that with a relatively long minimum focus distance of 5 meters, the Vortex Solo is not the ideal monocular for those who often like to observe things like butterflies from very close range.
