Nikon Monarch HG 8x42 Product description

  • Wide 8.31° field of view: The broad view makes it easier to pick up moving birds, scan woodland edges, and follow wildlife without feeling boxed in.
  • 8x42 configuration: This classic format balances reach, steadiness, and brightness, giving a versatile binocular for hunting, birdwatching, hiking, and general nature observation.
  • Roof Schmidt/Pechan prism design: The slim roof-prism layout keeps the binocular compact and easy to carry while still delivering the handling expected from a full-size 42 mm model.
  • 17.80 mm eye relief: The generous eye relief helps eyeglass wearers see the full image more comfortably and reduces strain during longer sessions behind the binocular.
  • Waterproof and fogproof construction: Nitrogen filling and sealed construction help the binocular stay reliable when moving through rain, damp ground, or changing temperatures.

About the Nikon Monarch HG Series

Nikon Monarch HG sits at the top of the MONARCH binocular family and was introduced in 2016 with the first 8x42 and 10x42 models. The series was developed for users who want a field binocular with a wide, immersive image and a lighter, more refined build than many conventional full-size designs. In Nikon’s lineup, Monarch HG is aimed at demanding birdwatchers, nature observers, hikers, and other users who spend long periods glassing in changing outdoor conditions.

A defining part of the series is its use of ED glass and a Field Flattener Lens System, combined with roof prisms that use phase-correction coating and multilayer-coated lenses and prisms. In practice, that combination is intended to deliver a sharp, high-contrast image across a wide field while keeping color fringing under control. The series also uses magnesium-alloy bodies and waterproof, fogproof construction, so the binoculars remain suitable for regular field use without becoming unnecessarily heavy. Across the range, Monarch HG models are built as premium all-round binoculars for observation where image quality, portability, and long viewing comfort matter equally.

About the Nikon Monarch HG 8x42

Nikon Monarch HG 8x42 is the most versatile configuration in the series for users who want a full-size binocular that remains easy to hold steady. The 8x magnification gives enough reach for birdwatching, wildlife observation, and open-country scanning, while the 42.00 mm objective lenses provide the light-gathering ability needed for early-morning woods, overcast weather, and the last active part of the day. Its 5.25 mm exit pupil supports a bright, relaxed view that is forgiving of small shifts in eye position, which helps during long sessions in the field.

The binocular also stands out for its 145.43 m/1000m field of view and 60.30° apparent field of view. That wide image is especially useful when tracking birds in flight, following moving game, or scanning large landscapes efficiently. A 17.80 mm eye relief makes the model more accommodating for eyeglass wearers, and the 2.00 m close focus adds flexibility for nearby subjects such as butterflies, feeders, or woodland detail. The central focusing system keeps adjustment quick and intuitive, while the right-eyepiece diopter allows the binocular to be tuned to the user’s eyesight.

Mechanically, the Monarch HG 8x42 is built as a practical field binocular rather than a bulky observation instrument. Its 665.00 g weight, 145.00 mm length, and single-hinge body keep it portable for day-long carry. Fully multicoated optics, nitrogen filling, and waterproof and fogproof construction support dependable use in wet ground, cold mornings, and shifting temperatures. Tripod adaptability adds another advantage for prolonged observation from hides, shorelines, or open vantage points.

About Nikon

Nikon was established in Tokyo on July 25, 1917 as Nippon Kogaku K.K., and it adopted the name Nikon Corporation on April 1, 1988. Headquartered in Tokyo, Japan, the company built its reputation around precision optics and imaging, and its business today spans imaging products, precision equipment, healthcare, industry, components, and digital manufacturing.

Within sport optics, Nikon produces binoculars, fieldscopes, and laser rangefinders, with binocular families that include MONARCH, PROSTAFF, EDG, ACULON, and High Grade. Nikon has a long history in this category, including the introduction of its MIKRON compact binoculars in 1921. For binocular users, the brand is especially associated with multilayer-coated lenses designed to improve light transmission and with a broad lineup that ranges from entry-level field glasses to more advanced observation models such as the Monarch HG series.
