Leica Geovid Pro 8x42 Product description

  • 8x42 configuration: The combination of 8x magnification and a 42.00 mm objective balances image steadiness, brightness, and field awareness, making it well suited to stalking, woodland hunting, and long glassing sessions in mixed light.
  • Integrated laser rangefinder: With a measuring range out to 2950.00 m and +/- 0.5 m accuracy, the binocular gives distance data quickly, helping with faster target assessment and more confident shot planning in open country.
  • Applied Ballistics and Bluetooth: Built-in ballistic software and Bluetooth connectivity let the binocular work with ballistic profiles and external data, so distance information becomes more useful when angle and holdover matter.
  • Porro-Perger prism system: The Porro - Perger design supports strong contrast, depth perception, and efficient light use, which helps when picking detail out of shaded cover or low-contrast terrain.
  • Magnesium hunting build: A magnesium housing, nitrogen filling, waterproof and fogproof construction, and AquaDura lens coatings make the binocular easier to rely on in wet weather, cold mornings, and hard field use.

About the Leica Geovid Pro Series

Leica Geovid Pro is Leica’s premium hunting-binocular family, built for users who want binocular optics, laser rangefinding, and ballistic calculation in one field tool. The series first appeared with the 8x32 and 10x32 models in 2022, and it sits in Leica’s hunting-optics lineup as the Geovid generation aimed at hunters making longer-distance decisions rather than carrying separate optics and electronics.

A defining characteristic of the series is its use of Applied Ballistics Ultralight, which allows the binocular to turn measured distance into more practical shooting information. Bluetooth connectivity links the binocular to the Leica Ballistics app so profiles can be transferred directly, and users who need a broader ballistic solution can move to the Elite upgrade. The range includes 32 mm, 42 mm, and 56 mm objective-lens versions in several magnifications, letting hunters choose between lighter carry, broader versatility, or stronger low-light emphasis. Across the series, the design philosophy is clear: combine Leica’s hunting-oriented optical performance with fast ranging and field-ready ballistic support in a single, durable binocular platform.

About the Leica Geovid Pro 8x42

The Leica Geovid Pro 8x42 is the balanced all-round model in the Geovid Pro family. Its 8.00 x magnification gives a steadier view than higher-power alternatives, which is useful when glassing from unsupported positions, tracking moving game, or scanning for long periods without fatigue. Paired with a 42.00 mm objective, a 5.25 mm exit pupil, and 91% light transmission, it is configured for practical use from first light into the last part of legal shooting time, while still remaining compact enough for regular carry.

The optical system uses Porro - Perger prisms, a layout valued for strong image plasticity and efficient light handling. In the field, that helps the binocular separate animals from background cover and maintain a natural sense of depth. A 130.00 m/1000m field of view supports wider terrain observation than a narrower high-magnification format, which is especially helpful in woodland edges, broken hills, and general hunting use. The 18.00 mm eye relief also makes the binocular easier to use for eyeglass wearers.

Its integrated rangefinder measures out to 2950.00 m in as little as 0.3 s, with +/- 0.5 m accuracy, and adds practical functions such as scan mode, an inclinometer, and ballistic software. Because the binocular also supports Bluetooth, it can work with ballistic profiles for more informed holdover decisions. The red illuminated internal display remains readable in varied light, while the open-bridge magnesium body, central focusing system, nitrogen filling, and AquaDura coating keep the binocular suited to demanding hunting conditions.

About Leica

Leica Camera AG traces its history to 1869, when Ernst Leitz took over Carl Kellner’s Optical Institute in Wetzlar. The company remains headquartered in Wetzlar, Germany, and its business spans cameras, lenses, and sports optics. Within sport optics, Leica’s range includes binoculars, spotting scopes, riflescopes, and rangefinders, reflecting a long focus on precision optical instruments.

Leica’s background in binoculars goes back to 1907, and the company introduced the first Trinovid binoculars in 1958. For this product category, one of Leica’s most relevant milestones came in 1992, when it introduced the Geovid, the first binocular with an integrated rangefinder. That history is directly reflected in the Geovid Pro concept, which combines optical observation with laser distance measurement and ballistic capability in a single hunting optic.
