IOR Spyder 9-36x44 SFP Product description

  • 9-36x magnification range: The wide zoom span lets this riflescope cover everything from precise mid-range load development to very small targets at long distance, so the shooter can stay with one optic across different competition stages.
  • 44 mm objective with fully multicoated lenses: This combination supports a bright, high-contrast image while keeping the front end slimmer than very large-objective target scopes, which helps maintain a practical rifle balance.
  • Tactical multi-turn turrets with Zero Stop: Large adjustment travel and a positive return-to-zero system make elevation changes easier to manage during repeated distance corrections, reducing the chance of getting lost on the turret.
  • Objective-side parallax adjustment from 8 m to infinity: Fine parallax correction helps sharpen the target image and minimize aiming error at both short and extended distances, which is especially useful for benchrest and F-class style shooting.
  • 35 mm main tube construction: The larger tube supports generous internal adjustment and a robust mechanical layout, giving the scope the travel and durability expected from a competition-oriented optic.

About the IOR Spyder Series

The IOR Spyder series sits in the brand's competition riflescope segment and is built around a clear purpose: delivering the magnification and adjustment precision needed for deliberate target shooting. In this family, the emphasis is on high-magnification variable optics rather than general-purpose field scopes, making the series a natural fit for disciplines where exact aiming and careful shot correction matter more than compact size or very fast close-range handling.

The series is defined by a 9x to 36x zoom range, a 44 mm objective, and a design intended for shooters who want to tune image scale to target size, mirage conditions, and firing distance. That layout makes the Spyder line especially relevant for competition use, where a lower setting can help with target acquisition and a much higher setting can be used for precise hold and shot placement. As part of IOR's riflescope range, the Spyder concept also reflects the company's preference for mechanically serious optics with substantial adjustment capability and a format suited to precision rifles rather than lightweight hunting setups.

About the IOR Spyder 9-36x44 SFP

The IOR Spyder 9-36x44 SFP is a specialist riflescope for shooters who need very high top-end magnification and repeatable turret control for target work. Its 9-36x magnification range gives it a broad working envelope: lower power is useful when settling behind the rifle or reading a wider portion of the target area, while the upper end helps with fine aiming on small scoring rings and distant targets. The second focal plane layout keeps the reticle visually consistent as magnification changes, which many target shooters prefer when they want the aiming point to remain easy to see at all powers.

The optical system combines a 44 mm objective, fully multicoated lenses, and 90% light transmission to maintain a clear, usable image without the bulk of an oversized front lens. Eye relief of 80.00 mm to 95.00 mm gives the shooter some flexibility in head position, while the fast-focus eyepiece helps bring the reticle into sharp focus quickly. Field of view from 4.50 m/100m to 1.10 m/100m reflects the scope's target-oriented role, prioritizing precision over wide-area observation.

Mechanically, this model is set up for disciplined dialing. The tactical multi-turn turrets provide substantial adjustment travel, with 100.00 MOA elevation and 49.00 MOA windage, and the Zero Stop system makes it easier to return to a known baseline after multiple corrections. Objective-side parallax adjustment from 8m - inf. is particularly useful on a scope with this much magnification, because precise parallax tuning helps keep the target image crisp and reduces apparent reticle shift. A 35 mm tube, nitrogen filling, and waterproof, fogproof, shockproof construction complete a design aimed at serious competition use.

About IOR

IOR is a Romanian optics manufacturer headquartered in Bucharest. The company was founded in Bucharest in 1936 and was nationalized in 1948. Its work spans both commercial and military optics, with a product range that includes riflescopes for hunting and sport shooting, tactical riflescopes, reflex sights, and optical equipment for infantry, artillery, and armored vehicles. IOR also lists night-vision equipment within its infantry-focused portfolio.

Within sporting optics, the company is known for using German Schott glass and for developing riflescopes with 35 mm and 40 mm main tubes. IOR also states that it introduced 6x, 7x, 8x, and 10x zoom riflescopes with parallax adjustment on the central tube. That background helps explain why its target and tactical optics tend to emphasize strong mechanical construction, generous adjustment range, and formats aimed at precision shooting rather than minimal weight.

What scope ring height do you recommend for mounting this optic on a Bergara BMR Carbon .22LR?

by Paulo Pugliesi

Dear Sir!

The Bergara BMR Carbon is a really nice rifle.

The ideal ring height is largely a matter of personal preference, as some shooters prefer a higher mounting position while others prefer the scope to sit as low as possible.

For this rifle and scope combination, we recommend a minimum ring height of 8 mm.

Does this scope have a very tight eyebox at high magnification? Is it hard to get behind it?

by Paulo Pugliesi

Dear Sir!

Yes, the IOR Spyder 9-36x44 SFP has a somewhat tight eyebox, especially at higher magnifications (24x–36x). This is a common characteristic of compact, high-magnification precision scopes.

While the eyebox is not the most forgiving, experienced shooters generally find it manageable with a consistent cheek weld and proper eye relief adjustment. Once correctly set up on the rifle, the scope provides excellent image quality, clarity, and resolution.

How do I reset the zero on my IOR Spyder 9-36x44 SFP which has 'captive turrets'. They are unlike anything I've previously come across.

Thank you for any help that can be offered... Pete

by Peter Ellinger

Dear Sir!

Unfortunately, we do not have this scope in stock to inspect the turret mechanism directly. Based on the available information, we believe that the turrets do not have a true zero stop. The adjustment can typically be reset to zero after zeroing the scope.
