Fujinon LB 15x80 MT-SX Product description

  • 15x80 light-gathering format: The combination of 15x magnification and 80 mm objectives gives this large binocular the reach needed for distant observation while keeping a bright 5.3 mm exit pupil that remains comfortable in low light.
  • Porro-prism optical system: The Porro prism layout supports strong depth perception and a spacious image, which helps when scanning coastlines, open terrain, or the night sky for extended periods.
  • EBC multi-coating: Fujinon's EBC Multi-coating is designed to improve light transmission and suppress stray reflections, giving a cleaner, higher-contrast view when observing faint or low-contrast subjects.
  • Weather-resistant construction: Nitrogen filling, waterproofing, and fogproof construction help the binocular stay usable through damp air, temperature changes, and exposed outdoor conditions.
  • Tripod-adaptable large-body design: At this size, tripod use is the practical way to unlock the binocular's resolving power, making it better suited to long observation sessions where image steadiness matters as much as magnification.

About the Fujinon LF Series

The Fujinon LF series was developed as a compact binocular family built around everyday observation rather than heavy-duty long-range use. The line comprised the 8x32 LF and 10x32 LF, and Fujifilm positioned these models for close, careful viewing tasks such as observing plants and viewing paintings. That emphasis shaped the series into a lighter, more portable alternative within the broader FUJINON binocular range.

Unlike Fujinon's marine and large-objective binoculars, the LF models used a roof-prism design and lightweight aluminum bodies to keep handling easy for casual field use and indoor observation alike. The series also featured center-focus operation, pop-up eyecups, and a close focus capability down to 1.5 m, which made the LF concept especially suitable for users who needed flexibility at shorter distances. Fujifilm ended sales of both LF models in May 2012, but the series remains a distinct example of the brand's more compact, observation-oriented binocular design.

About the Fujinon LB 15x80 MT-SX

The Fujinon LB 15x80 MT-SX is a large-format binocular built for situations where brightness, image stability, and long-distance detail matter more than portability. Its 15x magnification gives a meaningful step up in reach over general-purpose binoculars, while the 80 mm objective lenses collect enough light to keep the image useful at dusk, at sea, or under the night sky. That balance makes this model well suited to fixed-position observation, maritime use, surveillance, and astronomy.

The optical layout uses Porro prisms and EBC Multi-coating, a combination that supports a bright, contrast-rich image with the kind of visual depth that helps when separating distant objects from their background. A 4.0° field of view remains wide enough for scanning broad areas, while the 15.7 mm eye relief gives a more forgiving viewing position than many high-magnification binoculars. The binocular is also tripod adaptable, which is especially important at this size because a stable mount lets the observer take full advantage of the available resolution.

Mechanically, the LB 15x80 MT-SX is designed for exposed outdoor use. It is nitrogen filled, waterproof, and fogproof, helping it cope with moisture and temperature shifts that can quickly compromise lesser optics. The long body and substantial weight are part of that heavy-duty approach: this is a binocular intended for deliberate, supported observation rather than handheld convenience.

About Fujinon

Fujinon is part of Fujifilm's long-established optical business. Fuji Photo Film Co., Ltd. was established in Japan on January 20, 1934, and production began at the Ashigara Factory in Kanagawa Prefecture the following month. FUJINON binocular production started in 1947 with the 6x25 Meibo series, and the brand later expanded into a broad optical-device portfolio that includes binoculars as well as lenses for broadcast, cinema, videography, CCTV, and industrial applications.

That wider optical background is relevant to products such as the LB 15x80 MT-SX, because Fujifilm's experience in lens design and optical glass manufacturing informs its binocular range. FUJINON lenses trace their origins to optical glass production at the Odawara Factory in 1940, and the binocular lineup has since grown to include the MT and FMT series, along with Mariner, Polaris, and TECHNO-STABI models. Within this range, Fujinon is especially known for robust mechanical construction and serious observation optics built for professional and demanding field use.
