Nikon Prostaff 5 12x50

• 12x magnification with 50 mm objectives: brings distant detail closer while the larger front lenses help maintain image brightness for long observation sessions in open country, on the coast, or at sporting events.
• Roof prism design: the Schmidt/Pechan prism system keeps the binocular slimmer and easier to carry than a bulkier porro design, which matters when packing for travel, hiking, or hunting.
• Fully multicoated optics: multilayer coatings improve light transmission and contrast, helping the image stay clearer and more usable in mixed light and overcast conditions.
• Long eye relief: the 15.50 mm eye relief gives a more comfortable viewing position and makes the binocular easier to use for many eyeglass wearers.
• Waterproof, fogproof construction: nitrogen filling and sealed construction help the binocular stay reliable when moving between temperatures or using it in rain, damp woodland, or cold morning air.

About the Nikon Prostaff 5 Series

The Nikon Prostaff 5 series sits in Nikon’s outdoor-focused sport optics range as a practical roof prism line for general field use. Nikon introduced the series in 2014, with variants including 8x42, 10x42, 10x50 and 12x50, giving users a choice between wider-view all-round models and higher-magnification versions for longer-distance observation. Across the range, the design emphasizes a balance of manageable weight, straightforward handling and dependable weather resistance rather than specialist complexity.

PROSTAFF 5 binoculars use roof prisms, central focusing and multilayer-coated optics, with a body made from fiberglass-reinforced polycarbonate resin. The series also uses lead- and arsenic-free glass and is built to be waterproof and fog-free with nitrogen gas. In practice, that makes the line well suited to birdwatching, nature observation, hiking, camping, spectator sports and similar outdoor use where compact shape, quick focusing and reliable all-weather performance matter more than extra bulk or advanced electronics.

About the Nikon Prostaff 5 12x50

The Nikon Prostaff 5 12x50 is the longest-reaching model in this series, combining 12x magnification with 50.00 mm objectives for users who need more detail at distance without moving into a much larger binocular format. That makes it a strong fit for scanning open terrain, following wildlife across fields or hillsides, and picking out distant landmarks where extra reach is more important than the widest possible field of view. The 82.08 m/1000m field of view remains controlled enough for deliberate observation, while the 4.17 mm exit pupil helps keep the image usable in changing daylight.

Fully multicoated optics support contrast and brightness, and the Schmidt/Pechan roof prism layout keeps the housing slimmer and easier to pack than a traditional porro binocular of similar objective size. The central focusing system allows quick adjustment when subjects move between distances, while the right-eye diopter helps fine-tune the view to the user’s eyesight. With 15.50 mm eye relief, the binocular is also more accommodating for extended glassing sessions and more comfortable for many users who wear glasses.

Mechanically, the single-hinge body keeps handling simple and secure, and at 790.00 g the binocular remains portable for a 12x50 class model. Nitrogen filling, waterproof construction and fogproof performance help it stay ready for damp mornings, rain showers and temperature changes that can cause internal condensation in less protected optics. The result is a hunting binocular and general outdoor binocular that favors reach, weather resistance and straightforward field use.

About Nikon

Nikon was established in Tokyo on July 25, 1917 as Nippon Kogaku K.K., and the company later adopted the name Nikon Corporation on April 1, 1988. Headquartered in Tokyo, Japan, Nikon works across imaging products, precision equipment, healthcare, industry, components and digital manufacturing. Within sport optics, Nikon produces binoculars, fieldscopes and laser rangefinders, with established binocular families including MONARCH, PROSTAFF, EDG, ACULON and High Grade.

For binocular users, Nikon is particularly known for applying its optical manufacturing background to practical field products, including the use of multilayer-coated lenses to improve light transmission. That experience spans decades: Nikon introduced its MIKRON compact binoculars in 1921. Today, its sport optics range covers everything from accessible outdoor binoculars to more specialized observation models, with an emphasis on optical consistency, durable construction and clear product segmentation for different types of use.
