Meprolight Tru-Dot Mossberg 500, Front Sight

• Self-illuminated tritium front sight: the green tritium insert stays visible in low light and at night without batteries, so the shotgun remains ready for use at any hour.
• Simple dot aiming reference: a bright front dot gives a fast, uncluttered sight picture that helps the eye pick up the muzzle quickly for defensive or field shooting.
• Steel construction: the sight body is built from steel for better resistance to knocks, recoil, and hard use on a working Mossberg 500 platform.
• Fixed design: a non-adjustable front sight keeps the setup straightforward and durable, with fewer parts to shift out of alignment over time.
• No-battery operation: the sight is always on, with no switches to manage and no power source to replace, which reduces maintenance and keeps the gun simple.

About the Meprolight Tru-Dot Series

Meprolight Tru-Dot sights are built around a clear idea: provide a consistent day-and-night aiming reference in a fixed iron-sight format that does not depend on batteries. In Meprolight’s catalog, the series covers multiple firearm platforms and includes fixed, adjustable, and suppressor-height variants, giving the line a broad role across defensive, duty, and sporting use. The defining feature is the use of tritium illumination, which keeps the sight picture visible in low-light and nighttime conditions while preserving the familiar handling of conventional iron sights.

Across the series, Tru-Dot models are designed as replacement sights for compatible factory setups, with versions made for different handgun and long-gun applications. The family is known for its practical sight pictures, durable metal construction, and straightforward operation. Rather than adding electronics or changing the manual of arms, the series focuses on faster visual pickup, dependable low-light visibility, and a robust mechanical layout. That makes Meprolight Tru-Dot sights especially relevant for shooters who want a traditional sighting system with improved visibility for hunting, defensive use, or general-purpose shooting in changing light.

About the Meprolight Tru-Dot Mossberg 500, Front Sight

The Meprolight Tru-Dot Mossberg 500, Front Sight is a dedicated front night sight for the Mossberg 500 platform, intended for shooters who want a more visible aiming point than a standard bead or plain front blade. Its main advantage is the green self-illuminated tritium dot, which remains visible in dim interiors, at dusk, and in nighttime conditions without relying on batteries or external charging. On a shotgun used for defensive roles or low-light field work, that means the front sight remains easy to locate when contrast is poor and time is limited.

This model uses a fixed steel construction, which suits the practical demands of a pump-action shotgun. Steel helps the sight tolerate recoil, handling wear, and incidental impacts better than lighter, less robust materials. The fixed layout also keeps the system simple: there are no adjustment controls to snag, loosen, or complicate operation. For many Mossberg 500 users, that is exactly the point of a front tritium sight upgrade: preserve the familiar handling of the shotgun while making the muzzle reference faster to acquire in difficult light.

The sight’s black finish keeps glare low in daylight, while the illuminated front element draws the eye when ambient light drops. Because it is a front-sight solution rather than a bulky optical add-on, it maintains the compact profile and straightforward manual handling that many shooters prefer on a working shotgun. The result is a simple upgrade that improves visibility where it matters most: at the front sight.
