Lyman No.16 Folding Leaf Sight

• Folding leaf design: The sight folds down close to the barrel when not in use, so it works well as an auxiliary rear sight on scope-mounted rifles without adding unnecessary bulk.
• Adjustable elevation blade: Elevation can be tuned to the rifle and load, helping shooters refine point of impact instead of being limited to a fixed-height rear sight.
• 3/8" dovetail fit: Designed for standard 3/8" dovetail slots, the sight suits many rifles and makes it a practical option for replacement or backup iron-sight setups.
• Open rear triangle: The white-marked triangular rear sight offers a clear reference point that is quick to pick up in the field and easy to align with a front sight.
• Made in USA construction: Built in the USA and kept deliberately simple, the sight emphasizes dependable function for hunting rifles and traditional rifle setups.

About the No.16 Series

The Lyman No.16 series is a traditional line of folding leaf rear sights made for shooters who want a practical open-sight solution on rifles that may also carry an optic. In Lyman’s sight range, this series fills the role of a compact barrel-mounted rear sight that stays unobtrusive when folded, yet remains ready as a usable backup or auxiliary aiming system. That makes it especially relevant for hunting rifles, classic sporting rifles and older firearm patterns that still rely on dovetail-mounted iron sights.

The defining feature of the series is its adjustable elevation blade, which gives the shooter a simple way to regulate impact for different loads or distances. The folding format keeps the sight low against the barrel when not needed, helping preserve a clean profile on rifles fitted with a scope. Lyman offers the No.16 in multiple height variants, allowing the sight to match different barrel and front-sight combinations. Rather than focusing on complex mechanisms, the series follows a straightforward design philosophy: durable open-sight function, compact storage on the rifle, and compatibility with the common 3/8" dovetail mounting standard.

About the Lyman No.16 Folding Leaf Sight

The Lyman No.16 Folding Leaf Sight is an open rear sight intended for shooters who want a compact, adjustable iron sight on a rifle without moving to a receiver or tang-mounted system. Its main advantage is the folding leaf construction, which lets the sight sit close to the barrel when not in use. On a rifle with a scope, that makes it a sensible auxiliary sight; on a more traditional setup, it keeps the profile neat while still allowing the rear blade to be raised when needed.

The sight uses an adjustable elevation arrangement, giving the shooter a practical way to tune the rifle’s point of impact. That matters when changing ammunition, refining zero, or setting up a rifle for a preferred distance. Windage correction is typically handled by drifting the sight in its dovetail, while elevation changes are made at the blade, keeping the system mechanically simple and easy to understand.

This model also benefits from a white rear reference and triangle rear sight form, which help the eye define the sight picture more quickly than a plain black notch in mixed light. At only 15.00 g, it adds very little weight to the rifle. The polymer construction keeps the sight light, while the black finish maintains a subdued appearance that suits both field rifles and classic sporting arms.

About Lyman

Lyman began as The Lyman Gun Sight Company in 1878 in Middlefield, Connecticut. The company built its early reputation on sighting equipment, and its tang and receiver sights still reflect principles from William Lyman’s original sight design. That long connection to iron sights makes the brand especially relevant in categories such as rifle sights, receiver sights and traditional shooting accessories.

Today, Lyman focuses on shooting and reloading equipment, with product lines that include reloading dies, presses, bullet-casting tools and gun sights. This broad specialization gives the company a strong place among shooters who value practical, workshop-oriented products as much as field equipment. Lyman Products is now headquartered in Middletown, Connecticut, and the brand remains closely associated with traditional American shooting accessories and reloading tools.
