Hawke Frontier ED X 8x25 Product description

  • Ultra-Compact Double-Hinge Design — Pocket-Sized: Unlike the open-bridge design of the larger Frontier ED X models, the 8×25 uses a double-hinge body that folds to a significantly smaller closed footprint — compact enough to fit in a jacket pocket. At just 310 g and 68–106 mm wide × 110 mm high when folded, it is the most compact and lightweight model in the Frontier ED X range by a considerable margin, making it ideal for travel, hiking, birding on foot, and any application where packing size and carried weight are a priority.
  • Extra-Low Dispersion Glass with Dielectric Coated BAK-4 Roof Prisms: Despite the compact dimensions, the Frontier ED X 8×25 uses the same full H7 specification as the larger models in the range: Extra-Low Dispersion (ED) glass in the lens elements for controlled chromatic aberration and minimal colour fringing, dielectric mirror coated BAK-4 roof prisms for maximum light reflectivity and transmission, and phase correction to maintain resolution and contrast across the full aperture.
  • Wide Field of View for a 25mm Compact: The field of view of 140 metres at 1,000 metres and apparent field of view of 64° are exceptionally broad for a 25mm objective compact binocular, providing a wide, naturally immersive sight picture for landscape scanning, wildlife observation, and fast target acquisition — the characteristic that distinguishes this model from standard compact binoculars in the same size class.
  • Close Focus at 2 Metres: The minimum focus distance of 2 metres — matched to the full-size 8×42 model — extends the usability of the binocular to very close-range subjects, relevant for birding, insect and flora observation, and close-range nature observation where the compact size makes bringing the binocular to eye level quick and natural.
  • Magnesium Alloy Chassis with Water-Repellent Coatings: The body is constructed from magnesium alloy with nitrogen purging, waterproofing, and fogproof sealing — full field-ready construction in a pocket-sized package. Water-repellent fully multi-coated lenses and stay-on lens covers complete the weather-ready specification. The twist-up eyecups accommodate both bare-eyed and eyeglass-wearing users at 16mm of eye relief.

About the Frontier ED X Binocular Series

The Frontier ED X series is Hawke's primary H7-tier binocular range, built on the H7 optical system with Extra-Low Dispersion (ED) glass, dielectric mirror coated BAK-4 roof prisms, and phase correction as standard across all models. The series is designed for hunters, birders, nature observers, and outdoor enthusiasts who want high optical performance in a range of sizes and magnification configurations.

All Frontier ED X models feature water-repellent fully multi-coated lenses, a magnesium alloy chassis with nitrogen purging and waterproof sealing, and twist-up eyecups. The series spans from the ultra-compact 8×25 and 10×25 double-hinge pocket models through compact 8×32 and 10×32 open-bridge configurations to full-size 8×42 and 10×42 models. The 25mm models are distinguished by their double-hinge folding design and smaller overall dimensions, providing full H7 optical specification in the most packable format in the lineup.

About the Model (Hawke Frontier ED X 8x25 — Green)

The Hawke Frontier ED X 8x25 is the most compact model in the Frontier ED X range, designed for travellers, hikers, birders, and nature observers who want the full H7 optical specification of the Frontier ED X series in a genuinely pocket-sized package. The double-hinge folding design allows the binocular to collapse to a small footprint that fits in a jacket or trouser pocket — a meaningful distinction from the open-bridge designs of the larger Frontier ED X models. At 310 g, it adds negligible weight to any kit.

The 8× magnification with a 25mm objective lens delivers a field of view of 140 metres at 1,000 metres and an apparent field of view of 64° — notably broad for a 25mm compact, providing a wide, comfortable sight picture during extended use. The ED glass lens elements and dielectric mirror coated BAK-4 roof prisms with phase correction deliver the clean, high-contrast, neutrally rendered image characteristic of the H7 system. The close focus distance of 2 metres matches the full-size 8×42 model and extends usability to very close-range subjects.

The magnesium alloy chassis is nitrogen purged, waterproof, and fogproof. The water-repellent fully multi-coated lenses provide reliable performance in rain and wet conditions. The twist-up eyecups and 16mm of eye relief accommodate both bare-eyed and eyeglass-wearing users. Note that unlike the larger Frontier ED X models, the 8×25 does not include a built-in tripod mounting thread. Stay-on lens covers are included as standard.
