Innogun Hybrid

The History of Innogun

The story of INNOGUN company began in the early 2000s when its founder Christian Scherpf, a passionate hunter and an engineer for Blaser at the time, decided to turn his hobby into a career. Leaving his job, he started his own company, laying the foundation for what INNOGUN would become. It's interesting that scope mounts weren't the first products manufactured by the company. Christian’s initial focus was on developing a double-barrel combination rifle, which made its public debut in 2010 at the IWA fair in Nuremberg. After the introduction, the team at INNOGUN dedicated time to refining the product and conducting further testing and improvements.

Max, Christian's nephew, started contributing to the company around this period as well. As the rifle was being developed, Christian and Max began to think about the possibility of making their own mounting systems to go along with their weapons. By 2011, they had patented an innovative locking mechanism and created their first mounting solution for their firearms.

In 2012, they established a separate trademark dedicated solely to mounting solution systems, giving it the name INNOMOUNT. Over time, the mount business began to grow, and seeing the potential, they decided to shift their primary focus to the development of mounting systems and eventually stopped producing guns altogether.

With the rising popularity of their mounting solutions, the company has expanded significantly and has 28 dealers in Europe, along with dealers in New Zealand and Australia as of 2023. Along with their scope mounting systems, they initially produced two gun models, namely the INNOGUN Hybrid and INNOGUN Impuls which are no longer available for sale.

Innogun Hybrid Rifle Review

The Hybrid, manufactured by Innogun, is an over-and-under break-open combination rifle. Its upper barrel is chambered for shotgun gauges, while the lower barrel accommodates standard rifle cartridges. The Hybrid was designed by the company’s CEO Christian Scherpf and features several design elements that are uniquely characteristic of Innogun models. One such unusual design element is surely the pump-action system on the forend which is quite unusual for a combination hunting rifle.

At the rear end of the receiver, above the handle, is a standard breech lever used to open the rifle, revealing only the top chamber of the shotgun barrel. To load rifle cartridges, the gun should first be closed, and then a locking button located in front of the trigger guard must be pressed. Pressing it and pulling the opens the chamber. The rifle with an open chamber must not be breached and it is also impossible to be set off.

All INNOGUN models, including the Hybrid, are fitted with a unique scope mounting surface on top of the receiver, specifically designed to accept the INNOMOUNT mounting systems which guarantee 100% repeatability. The surface consists of two flat plates that accept mount clamps on the sides, along with two recoil notches on the inner sides.

Behind the breech opening handle is the manual cocking mechanism which requires a forward push using the thumb to cock the rifle. However, even when the rifle is cocked, this pump mechanism remains stationary unless unlocked by pressing the button in front of the trigger guard.

The Hybrid is equipped with two triggers, with the front trigger designated for the rifle and the rear one for the shotgun. A removable detachable magazine can hold three to five rounds and the barrels come factory equipped with sights. Additionally, Hybrid comes with a rubber recoil pad and is constructed for easy disassembly with only a few basic tools. The rifle can also be configured as the Express model, which accommodates two standard rifle cartridges in both the upper and lower barrel.

The company ceased gun production to concentrate on scope mounts, resulting in both the INNOGUN Hybrid and INNOGUN Impuls models being discontinued from sale.
