Vortex Razor HD 27-60x85 Angled

About the Vortex Razor HD Series

Vortex Razor HD is the manufacturer’s premium spotting-scope series, built for users who need more than casual observation. Within the Vortex lineup, Razor HD sits above more general-purpose models and is aimed at hunters, shooters, and dedicated observers who rely on strong resolution, dependable mechanics, and field-ready durability. The series covers both compact and full-size formats, including 50 mm, 56 mm, 65 mm, and 85 mm models, with straight and angled bodies depending on the intended style of use.

A defining trait of the series is its high-definition optical system, developed to reduce chromatic aberration while improving resolution and color fidelity. In practice, that matters when picking apart distant terrain, separating an animal from background cover, or reading small target details at long range. Razor HD spotting scopes also follow a practical mechanical design philosophy, with rubber-armored bodies and construction intended to be waterproof, fogproof, and shockproof. That combination makes the series well suited to western hunting, long-range shooting, and extended observation from exposed positions where weather, transport, and repeated tripod use are part of normal use.

About the Vortex Razor HD 27-60x85 Angled

The Vortex Razor HD 27-60x85 Angled is the large-objective model in the series for users who want maximum reach and image brightness from a tripod-mounted spotting scope. Its 27-60x magnification range gives it a broad working envelope: lower power is useful for scanning hillsides, tracking movement, or following trace, while the upper end helps with close inspection of distant targets, antler points, or subtle terrain features. Paired with an 85.00 mm objective lens, the scope maintains better brightness at higher magnification than smaller spotters, which is valuable in poor light and during long observation sessions.

The 45° angled eyepiece is especially practical for glassing from uneven ground, shooting benches, or shared tripod setups. It allows a more relaxed head position and makes it easier for multiple users to rotate through the optic without constant tripod height changes. Eye relief of 16.70-17.00 mm also helps maintain a comfortable viewing position, while the 5.00 m close focus gives the scope useful flexibility for nearer observation than many long-range spotters.

Optically, the model is built around a fully multicoated HD system intended to preserve contrast, color fidelity, and fine detail. In practical use, that means cleaner separation of small features and less distracting color fringing when viewing high-contrast subjects. The body is nitrogen-filled, waterproof, fogproof, and shockproof, so it is suited to hunting optics and range use in changing weather. At 394.00 mm and 1860.00 g, it is not a minimalist travel scope, but that size supports the light-gathering and high-magnification performance expected from a full-size spotting scope.

About Vortex

Vortex traces its roots to a Wild Birds Unlimited store opened by the Hamilton family in Madison, Wisconsin, in 1986. The company entered the sport optics market in 2002 and is now headquartered in Barneveld, Wisconsin. It is employee-owned and operated and focuses on optics for hunting, shooting, and outdoor use.

The brand’s catalogue covers riflescopes, binoculars, spotting scopes, laser rangefinders, and red dots, with established product families such as Razor, Viper, and Kaibab. Vortex also develops supporting technologies for modern shooting applications, including ballistic tools powered by GeoBallistics technology. Beyond the consumer optics market, the company has also worked on advanced aiming systems, including its 2022 selection for the U.S. Army’s Next Generation Squad Weapons fire-control program. For spotting scopes like the Razor HD, Vortex is known for combining field-oriented design with a broad product range that serves both hunters and precision shooters.
