Introduction
Vortex‘s Viper HD is a successful binoculars series. We were pleased to hear that they have decided to ‘freshen it up’.
Overview of the product
Viper is a name that has been around for some time. The first generation lacked the ‘HD’ mark. In the beginning, there was a wider selection of models as Vortex chose to include the 8.5×50 model. As the Viper was upgraded to Viper HD, four models remained – 8×42, 10×42, 10×50, and 12×50. Now that the second generation of Viper HD models has been introduced, Vortex chose to stick to the existing model range. Since the introduction of the series, Viper has become an established name and is well-liked among binoculars users.
The new, upgraded Viper HD series models feature improved eye-cups and ArmorTek coating on the external part of the lenses. ArmorTek protects the lenses from scratches. The older models were well-accepted among binoculars users but had a slight disadvantage – the field of view was not as big as one would want. Vortex has decided to introduce a wider field of view with the new models, which is a welcome change. The design remains similar – Viper series is still green and well rubberized. All the great characteristics of the Viper models, such as lightness and compactness, have also been retained.
Vortex now includes their GLASSPAK™ harness with the Viper models, a protective bag that otherwise retails for approx. 70 EUR. This practical and aesthetically appealing bag will protect the binoculars when they are not used.
Conclusion
We expect a lot from the new Viper series. Vortex will, without doubt, want to preserve the quality that the Viper series is known for. These binoculars fall into the price class of 500–800 € – if Vortex has managed to enhance the field of view, these binoculars will be a hit on the market.
