This article will delve into the Geovid Pro AB+ binoculars, the latest addition to the esteemed Geovid Pro line by Leica.
This year, attention was also notably drawn to the Calonox 2, the upgraded series of their thermal imaging devices. For more details, we’ve dedicated a separate article to it on the Optics Trade blog – be sure to give it a read.
The Famous Geovid Series
Before diving into the features of the new Pro AB+, it’s crucial to acknowledge the storied legacy of Leica’s Geovid series. The inaugural model bearing this name launched in 1992, marking the debut of laser rangefinding binoculars for the civilian market. Since then, Leica has introduced numerous enhancements, consistently leading the way in the hunting rangefinding binoculars sector. The Geovid Pro AB+ represents the zenith of their ongoing research and development efforts.
The Unique Features of the Geovid Pro Ab+
The immediately noticeable difference that distinguishes the Pro AB+ binoculars from other models in the Geovid series is their color; they are available in a flat dark earth tone. Beyond aesthetics, the Pro AB+ model sets itself apart from the Pro model through the inclusion of features related to its advanced ballistics calculator. While the Pro models can deliver ballistic solutions for distances up to 800 meters, the AB+ model, utilizing the Applied Ballistics Elite program, faces no such limitations regarding distance.
Within the app, users gain access to several advanced features, with shot probability analysis standing out prominently. This feature calculates the likelihood of hitting the target at a specified point by considering four key parameters: distance, wind speed, rifle precision, and muzzle velocity. The outcome is presented as a percentage within the viewer’s field of view, providing the user with a quantifiable insight into whether taking the shot is advisable.
The model is currently available in a single configuration of 10×42.
Price and Availability
The new Geovid Pro AB+ is already available for purchase, priced at 3600 €. This means it is 300 € more expensive than the Pro model. For individuals in need of the most advanced rangefinding device equipped with every conceivable function, especially for those seeking a ballistic solution output beyond 800 meters of distance, this price difference is relatively minor.
