Our marketing team made a stop at Steiner’s exhibit during the IWA 2024 fair to discover their newest products. Known as a leading manufacturer of sports optics in Europe, Steiner’s products are distinguished by their exceptional durability, making it always interesting to see what new developments they have in store. This year, the highlight was undoubtedly the launch of the Steiner eRanger series, which we will focus on in this article.
We have also written two additional articles about Steiner’s most recent products showcased at IWA 2024: the Ranger 10 1-10×24 and the Ranger 4S 4-16×44. To delve deeper into these products, the articles are available on our blog.
Furthermore, at the Shot Show in Las Vegas, Steiner unveiled the T1Xi red dot sight and the TM3X magnifier. We’ve covered these products extensively on our blog. For more details, please click here.
What is the eRanger all about?
The eRanger series currently consists of two products – binoculars and a riflescope; these can be used separately or together. So, how does the eRanger system work? First, you input the ballistic data into the Steiner Connect 2.0 app. When you are done, you transfer the information to the riflescope. The riflescope is equipped with three important features: a ballistics computer, intelligent environmental sensors and a display.
To utilize the ballistics computer, you need to know the distance to the target. You can use any rangefinder, but Steiner’s eRanger LRF 10×42 connects directly to any of the eRanger riflescopes. This means that upon measuring the distance with the rangefinding binoculars, the information gets transferred to the riflescope where it is displayed on the heads-up display. The goal is to adjust the elevation turret until you match that distance. Once the distance is matched, you just align the centre of the reticle with the target and pull the trigger.
Model range
At present, the eRanger series consists of three products: two riflescopes, the 2-16×50 and the 3-24×56, and one binocular, the 10×42 LRF.
The impact locator
This functionality is available with the eRanger 10×42 LRF binoculars. These binoculars not only communicate with eRanger riflescopes but also sync with the Steiner Connect App 2.0. Within the app, the most recent measurement is shown on a map, aiding in navigation towards the impact point. This feature is particularly beneficial in rugged or hilly landscapes where reaching the impact point can be challenging. Often, the perspective from a higher vantage point is much clearer than from ground level, where one’s view can be obstructed by tall grass and bushes. The impact locator serves as a valuable aid in locating the harvested animal.
