Swampfox has quickly made a name for itself in the optics market since its inception in 2018. The brand has garnered a large and loyal customer base, thanks to the affordability of its products. Initially focusing on red dot sights, Swampfox is now extending its range of products, steadfastly upholding the initial principles it was founded on. At the close of 2023, Swampfox unveiled the Raider 1×20 Micro Prism, a prism scope offering 1x magnification. We will explore its features in this article.
During Shot Show 2024, we also took a look at the Tomahawk II series of riflescopes, which feature fiber optic illumination.
A substitute for a red dot sight
Prism scopes with 1x magnification provide a great substitute for red dot sights, especially suited for individuals with vision problems like astigmatism, thanks to their incorporation of a diopter ring and an etched reticle.
A robust build
The scope’s housing is constructed from die-cast zinc alloy which makes it robust and durable. Its elevation and windage adjustment mechanisms are integrated seamlessly into the housing, thereby boosting its overall sturdiness. At Shot Show 2024, I was informed that the scope is capable of withstanding forces of up to 1200 Gs. Remarkably compact for a prism scope, its exterior resembles that of a small tube sight, similar to the Aimpoint Micro in appearance.
Aimpoint Micro mounting standard
The prism scope adopts the Aimpoint Micro mounting standard, considered an industry benchmark for small tube sights and optics of similar size. Included in the package are two fixed mounts at varying heights for the Picatinny platform, each equipped with titanium screws.
Illumination properties
The prism scope is powered by a CR2032 battery, housed in a side compartment. Unlike traditional dot sights where the illumination is projected onto the lens and reflected back to the user’s eye, this scope’s illumination is internal, which helps to avoid the starburst effect. This design is particularly beneficial for shooters with astigmatism. The reticle, etched directly onto the glass, remains visible even without illumination, ensuring that the sight can still be used if the battery dies. Users have the option between red or green illumination, and the reticle design choices include BDC or a 6 MOA dot. Additionally, Swampfox incorporates Shake N’ Wake technology into this product, automatically turning off the illumination after a period of inactivity to save battery life, but instantly reactivating it upon detecting movement.
Already available
The suggested retail price for the Swampfox Raider 1×20 Micro Prism in the US is 279 $. This makes it an attractive option for those in search of a prism scope with the compact design, similar to that of a small tube dot sight. It is already available for purchase.
