Swampfox Tomahawk II with fiber optic illumination

Swampfox is rapidly becoming a well-recognized brand in the optics industry. Despite being a relatively new player, established in 2018, they have swiftly amassed a large following due to the affordability of their products. Initially focusing on red dot sights, they are now broadening their product range while staying true to their founding principles. In this article, we are going to review the new Tomahawk II with fiber optic illumination.

During Shot Show 2024, we also took a look at the Raider 1×20 Micro Prism.

Fiber optic dot reticle

Reticles with the inclusion of fiber optic technology were, years ago, limited only to premium riflescopes. With time, this technology started to appear in more affordable optics, but it has never been, at least to my knowledge, observed in a riflescope priced this low, especially with so many illumination options; In the US, Tomahawk Gen II 1-6×24 is expected to sell for around 380 $. The illumination setting truly works like a charm – you can fine tune it to match virtually any level of ambient light. There are 12 illumination settings to choose from with an off-setting in between each one.

Additionally, it offers four color choices – standard red, green, amber, and the notably rare blue. Blue illumination is quite uncommon in riflescope lighting, and it stands out for its compatibility with almost any usual shooting backdrop, as it does not blend into the surroundings.

Swampfox has dubbed this reticle ‘BFO,’ an acronym for Bright Fiber Optic. They also offer a BDC (Bullet Drop Compensator) reticle, which lacks the fiber optic illumination and is available with either green or red illumination.

Other features

The Tomahawk II sports the classic wide-angle scope appearance. It is equipped with a 30mm tube, an uncapped tactical elevation turret, and a capped windage turret. The elevation turret is designed with a push/pull locking mechanism. In terms of optical quality, including clarity, eye box, and field of view, it offers excellent value for its price. Additionally, a throw lever is provided within the package.

A competitive player

It’s encouraging to witness Swampfox‘s continual enhancements to their optics, positioning them as a formidable contender, particularly in the affordable to mid-range price segment. From what I’ve gathered at their booth at Shot Show 2024, the Tomahawk II is almost set to be shipped within the US market.
