Red dot magnifier
Even at first glance, it is obvious that the Holosun product is quality made and robust. It comes in an aluminum housing with a rubber cover that can take quite some abuse and is also watertight. The package itself is everything you need to have it work with your Holosun red dot immediately. There are many accessories included with this item. Magnifier comes with an integrated ‘flip to the side’ QD Picatinny mount, and an optional spacer so that it can be used either in absolute co-witness or lower 1/3 witness (for more information view our article bellow).

How much does Holosun 3X magnifier weigh?
The Holosun magnifier is lightweight, at less than 300 grams including the qd mount and spacer. It is also quite compact. What seems like a good idea is the fact that the mounting piece itself is permanently fixed to the housing, which isn’t the case with most similar devices where the mount has a ring into which the device is the fastened, resulting in the possibility that the device gets loose, rotates or loses its zero in any other way.

Zeroing Holosun HM3X and red dot sight
Speaking of zeroing the Holosun products, the HM3X magnifier has some adjustability for both windage and elevation, so that it can be zeroed in together with your red dot sight. Knowing that it is a two-piece setup, this will never be a perfect solution. If you want something perfect, go and buy yourself a wide-angle scope, it will serve a similar range of tasks with more fiddling, but better accuracy. But as a back-up magnification system that allows you to transition from 1x to 3x in a flash, it is really good.
Holosun magnifier also features an adjustable diopter, which will, together with superb high quality lenses, give you a surprisingly clear and sharp image, especially considering that you are looking through a set of lenses that are not even mounted onto a single tube. The image is, honestly, better than on some of the devices that cost double the money or even more. It has to be said here that it was used with a Holosun produced red dot sight, and that these are made for each other and fit perfectly, but we are convinced that it works like this with most other sights as well, as long as it comes with a possibility to be mounted at an absolute or 1/3 co-witness.
Conclusion on HM3X
Mounted on a rifle (gun), the Holosun magnifier is extremely useful. It can be used as an observational device even when it is folded to the right. On top of that, it provides a clear, bright image and a fair field of view. Shooting with it is simple and fun, and after playing with it a bit, you will be able to land good shots at surprising distances. As said, it will never replace a good scope, sure, but if you prefer using a red dot sight on your rifle, this will open up new possibilities of use and lend a hand at long-distance shooting. Last but not least, it is incredibly fun to use, it looks good, is durable, and well worth the affordable price it is sold for.
