Athlon Optics is a relatively young company in the sports optics industry. Despite being around only since 2014, they have managed to make quite a name in that time. At this year’s Shot Show, we visited their booth to get a closer look at one of their latest products – the Cronus Tactical G2 7-42×60 ED Spotting Scope.
Cronus Tactical G2 7-42×60 ED Specifications
The Tactical G2 is a spotting scope with a built-in MIL reticle and a part of Athlos Chorus line. The design features a reticle focus wheel at the eyepiece’s back, a target focus in the middle, and a magnification adjustment ring at the front, making it compact and easy to pack.
The scope uses an apochromatic lens system to improve contrast, sharpness, and color definition, and UHD glass to reduce chromatic aberration. The use of UHD glass minimizes chromatic aberration, while the ESP dielectric coating ensures over 99% of light is transmitted to the viewer’s eyes.
The scope also comes with a Picatinny rail on the housing’s top, which can be moved to the sides by the user with appropriate tools. Built from an aluminum alloy chassis with a rubberized exterior and tactile ridges, the device offers a secure grip and feels really good in the hands. It is designed to be fully waterproof and fogproof and weighs approximately 2.6 kg (5.7 lbs).
Price and Warranty
In the box, Athlon includes a neoprene sleeve, sunshade, ARCA Swiss plate for mounting, an instruction manual, a lens cloth, and the device itself. Similar to the Cronus G2 UHD 20-60×86, the Tactic comes with a lifetime warranty in the US, valid for as long as the model is in production. In Europe, the warranty period is specified in years due to EU regulations, expected to be 10 years for this device.
Priced at 1250 $ in the US, it’s likely to be a bit more expensive in Europe due to export costs. We are sure, however, that the device should attract general interest, especially from tactical shooters and law enforcement professionals.
