Crimson Trace Hardline 4-12x40 BDC

• 4-12x magnification range: covers the practical middle ground between close woodland shots and more deliberate work at distance, making the scope suitable for stalking, rimfire use, and general hunting rifles.
• CT Custom BDC Long Range reticle: gives the shooter holdover references without dialing for every shot, which helps maintain speed when distance changes in the field.
• Second focal plane design: keeps the reticle visually consistent through the zoom range, so the aiming picture stays uncluttered and easy to read at higher magnification.
• Fully multicoated optics with 90% light transmission: support a brighter, higher-contrast image, which helps with target definition in mixed light and against darker backgrounds.
• Nitrogen-filled waterproof construction: resists internal fogging and weather exposure, giving the scope more dependable performance during cold mornings, rain, and repeated transport.

About the Crimson Trace Hardline Series

Crimson Trace Hardline riflescopes are positioned as a practical optics family for tactical and target shooters, with configurations that also translate well to hunting rifles where repeatable adjustments and clear hold references matter. The series spans models from 1-6x through 4-16x, giving shooters options for closer-range carbines, general-purpose rifles, and more deliberate distance work. Across the line, Crimson Trace pairs second-focal-plane reticles with several aiming patterns, including BDC, MR1-MIL, MR1-MOA, and Mildot, so users can choose a layout that suits either holdover shooting or more measurement-based corrections.

Mechanically, the Hardline family is built around 1-inch and 30 mm tubes, with a design approach that emphasizes straightforward durability rather than unnecessary complexity. Crimson Trace describes the series as fully multi-coated, nitrogen-purged, and waterproof, which reflects its intended use on rifles that may spend as much time outdoors as they do on the range. In practice, the Hardline line is aimed at shooters who want familiar controls, dependable weather resistance, and reticle choices matched to real shooting tasks instead of a one-pattern-fits-all approach.

About the Crimson Trace Hardline 4-12x40 BDC

The Crimson Trace Hardline 4-12x40 BDC is a versatile riflescope built around a 4-12x magnification range and a 40 mm objective lens, a combination that suits general hunting, rimfire shooting, and range use where the rifle may be asked to cover more than one distance band. At 4x, the scope remains manageable for shorter shots and moving game; at 12x, it provides enough image scale for more careful placement on smaller targets or for stretching a rimfire or centerfire rifle farther out. The 1-inch tube keeps mounting straightforward on many common rifle setups, while the 360.00 mm length gives enough mounting latitude without making the optic unusually bulky.

This model uses a second focal plane reticle and, on the manufacturer’s product page for this version, a CT Custom BDC Long Range pattern. That layout is intended to simplify holdovers, which is especially useful when there is no need to stop and dial for every change in distance. The reticle is non-illuminated, keeping the sight picture clean and the controls simple. Side parallax adjustment is listed at 100 YD, helping the scope stay more comfortable to use at the distances where this magnification range is most often employed.

Optically, the Hardline 4-12x40 BDC combines fully multicoated lenses with 90% light transmission to support a bright, usable image in ordinary field light. The scope is also nitrogen filled, waterproof, and shockproof, so it is better prepared for recoil, temperature changes, and wet weather than a basic range-only optic. Exposed turrets and 1/4 MOA click value make the scope more adaptable for shooters who prefer occasional correction at the turret rather than relying only on reticle holds.

About Crimson Trace

Crimson Trace was established in 1994 and built its reputation around firearm aiming and support systems, particularly laser sights and firearm-mounted lights. Its product families include well-known laser lines such as Lasergrips, Laserguard, and Rail Master, alongside the Lightguard range of firearm-mounted lights. A defining part of the brand’s design approach is Instinctive Activation, which uses pressure-pad placement intended to work with a normal shooting grip rather than requiring a separate, deliberate switch movement.

Beyond lasers and lights, Crimson Trace also produces riflescopes and rangefinders, extending the brand into broader shooting and hunting optics. The company operates a facility in Columbia, Missouri, United States, and its catalog reflects a focus on practical firearm accessories designed around real handling and field use. In the riflescope category, that background shows in products that emphasize straightforward controls, durable construction, and reticle systems tailored to common shooting tasks.
