Braun 8x42 WP-C Monocular Product description

  • 8x42 configuration: The 8x magnification brings distant subjects closer without making the image overly nervous in the hand, while the 42 mm objective gathers enough light for observation in mixed daylight and at dusk.
  • Roof prism design: The Schmidt/Pechan roof prism layout keeps the monocular slim and easy to pack, making it practical for hiking, travel, events and general outdoor observation where low bulk matters.
  • Fully multicoated optics: Complete multilayer coatings help preserve contrast and reduce distracting reflections, which makes details easier to pick out against foliage, buildings and other busy backgrounds.
  • Nitrogen-filled waterproof housing: The sealed body resists moisture from rain and damp conditions, while the nitrogen filling helps prevent internal fogging when temperatures change.
  • 18 mm eye relief: The long eye relief gives a more comfortable viewing position and makes the monocular easier to use for eyeglass wearers who need to see the full field of view.

About the Braun Monoculars Series

Braun Monoculars are built for users who want the reach of field optics in a format that is smaller and lighter than binoculars. In Braun’s optics range, the series serves as a practical option for travel, outdoor recreation, wildlife observation and event viewing, where compact size and quick one-handed use are often more important than carrying a larger two-barrel instrument. The line focuses on straightforward handling, durable construction and useful all-round magnification rather than specialist features.

Across the series, Braun combines roof prism construction with multicoated optics and weather-resistant housings to keep the monoculars portable and easy to live with in the field. This design approach suits walkers, birdwatchers, hunters and general outdoor users who need an optic that slips easily into a jacket pocket or daypack. The emphasis is on a clear, contrast-rich image, practical ergonomics and dependable use in changing weather, with specifications chosen to balance brightness, manageable size and stable handheld viewing.

About the Braun 8x42 WP-C Monocular

The Braun 8x42 WP-C Monocular is designed as a compact field optic for users who need useful reach without the weight and bulk of binoculars. Its 8x magnification is a sensible all-round choice for scanning landscapes, following wildlife or picking out details at events, because it offers a noticeable gain in image scale while remaining easier to hold steady than higher-powered monoculars. Paired with a 42 mm objective lens, it also gathers enough light to stay usable in overcast weather, woodland shade and the last part of legal daylight.

The optical system uses a Schmidt/Pechan roof prism layout and fully multicoated lenses, a combination that supports a slim shape and helps maintain contrast and image clarity. The 112 m field of view at 1000 m gives a broad enough picture for general observation, while the 18 mm eye relief improves comfort during longer sessions and makes the monocular more accommodating for eyeglass wearers. A diopter adjustment range of -4 / +4 Dpt helps fine-tune the image to the user’s eyesight.

Mechanically, the WP-C is built for outdoor use with a waterproof, fogproof, nitrogen-filled body and a rubberized exterior that improves grip in wet or cold conditions. At 340 g and 143.00 mm long, it remains easy to carry on hikes, trips and day outings. Fast focus operation also helps when switching quickly between subjects, which is especially useful when observing moving animals or scanning changing terrain.

About Braun

Karl Braun founded Karl Braun KG in 1915 in Germany, and the company’s early work included optical instruments, metal goods and binoculars. That background gives Braun a long connection to practical observation equipment rather than treating optics as a recent addition to the catalogue. In 1948, the business became Carl Braun Camera-Werk Nürnberg, and in 2004 it adopted the name BRAUN Photo Technik GmbH.

Today, BRAUN Photo Technik is headquartered in Eutingen, Baden-Württemberg, Germany. Its optics range includes binoculars and Ultralit spotting scopes, with the Ultralit line using ULTRALIT glass lenses. Braun binoculars returned to the company’s product range in 2007, reinforcing the brand’s continued focus on accessible field optics for travel, outdoor use and general observation.
