Hawke Endurance ED 8x42 Monocular Product description

  • 42mm Objective Lens with 5.3mm Exit Pupil — Bright Low-Light Image: The 42mm objective lens at 8× magnification produces an exit pupil of 5.3mm — substantially larger than the 3.1mm of the 8×25 monocular — providing a meaningfully brighter image in the reduced-light conditions of early morning and late evening. This makes the 8×42 monocular suited not only to daytime observation but also to hunting, wildlife surveillance, and nature observation in variable and low-light outdoor conditions.
  • Extra-Low Dispersion Glass with Phase Corrected BAK-4 Roof Prism: The Extra-Low Dispersion (ED) glass reduces chromatic aberration and colour fringing for a clean, neutrally rendered image. The phase corrected BAK-4 roof prism and fully multi-coated lenses maintain resolution and contrast across the full aperture, delivering the clear, well-resolved image characteristic of the H5 optical system in a compact monocular format.
  • Wide Field of View with 18mm Eye Relief: The field of view of 129 metres at 1,000 metres and apparent field of view of 59° provide a broad, comfortable observation window for landscape scanning and wildlife tracking. The 18mm of eye relief — significantly more than the 13mm on the 25mm monocular models — accommodates comfortable use for both bare-eyed and eyeglass-wearing users at the wider 42mm objective eyepiece diameter.
  • Tripod Mounting Thread for Extended Observation: Unlike the 25mm monocular models, the 8×42 includes a built-in ¼"-20 UNC tripod mounting thread, enabling use on a tripod or spotting scope-style mount for extended stationary observation — a practical addition given the larger objective and the longer viewing sessions for which this model is suited. Close focus distance of 2 metres accommodates close-range subjects.
  • Compact and Lightweight for a 42mm Monocular: At just 320 g and 80 mm wide × 143 mm high, the 8×42 monocular is significantly lighter than the equivalent Endurance ED 8×42 binocular at 705 g — providing the same 42mm objective specification in a single-tube format that is less than half the weight. The rubber-armoured body is nitrogen purged, waterproof, and fogproof.

About the Endurance ED Monocular Series

The Hawke Endurance ED Monocular series is the monocular range within Hawke's H5 optical system, built on Extra-Low Dispersion (ED) glass, phase corrected BAK-4 roof prisms, and fully multi-coated lenses. The series covers four configurations — 8×25, 10×25, 8×42, and 10×42 — providing the optical quality of the Endurance ED binocular range in a single-tube format that is significantly lighter and more compact than the equivalent binoculars. Monoculars are suited to supplementary field use, travel, and any application where the weight and bulk of a full binocular are impractical.

The 42mm models — with larger objectives, greater exit pupils, and longer eye relief — are the more capable configurations for hunting and low-light wildlife observation, while the 25mm compact models prioritise minimum size and weight for travel and casual use.

About the Model (Hawke Endurance ED 8x42 Monocular)

The Hawke Endurance ED 8x42 Monocular is the lowest-magnification full-size model in the Endurance ED monocular range, designed for hunters, wildlife observers, and nature enthusiasts who want the light-gathering capability of a 42mm objective lens in a single-tube format. At 320 g and 80 mm wide × 143 mm high, it is less than half the weight of the equivalent Endurance ED 8×42 binocular, making it a practical lightweight alternative for situations where a full binocular is unnecessary or impractical.

The 8× magnification with a 42mm objective lens delivers a field of view of 129 metres at 1,000 metres and an exit pupil of 5.3mm — supporting adequate image brightness for observation in variable and reduced ambient light. The ED glass reduces chromatic aberration and colour fringing, while the phase corrected BAK-4 roof prism and fully multi-coated lenses maintain resolution across the field. The close focus distance of 2 metres extends usability to close-range subjects during nature observation.

The 18mm of eye relief and twist-up eyecup with position stops accommodate both bare-eyed and eyeglass-wearing users. The built-in ¼"-20 UNC tripod mounting thread enables use on a tripod for extended observation. The body is nitrogen purged, waterproof, and fogproof with a high-grip rubber exterior. The supplied lanyard allows the monocular to be worn around the neck or wrist. Stay-on objective lens cover remains attached during use.
