Shield is a British company, formed in the early 1980s. With more than 30 years of experience, they are a competitive player in the field of red dot sight manufacturing. Handgun red dot sights are one of their priorities – no other manufacturer makes open reflex sights as small and as light as Shield. They combine minimalism with durable materials, keeping in mind that handguns’ recoil is not easy on the red dot.
Shield red dot sights are compact, light and extremely small. They often combine aluminium and polymer in their designs, achieving an optimally durable construction. Because of their size, most are meant to be used on handguns, but there are some exceptions, such as the SIS model which is perfect for an AR platform.
RMS stands for ‘Reflex Mini Sight’.
Thanks to the polymer used for the lens, the device can withstand up to ten times greater shock impact than devices using conventional glass. The view through the lens is incredibly clear and no tint of any colour is visible. It can comfortably be used with both eyes open and is designed without a red reflective filter on the lens which grants minimal visual signature. The housing is made from aerospace-grade aluminium.
The battery compartment is located on the bottom of the device, meaning that you will have to remove the sight from the mounting platform in order to change the battery. Optionally, the sight can be purchased with a side accessible battery drawer. Even though the device is incredibly small, the device uses the standard CR2032 battery. Under average use, it should last 2–3 years.
To make windage and elevation adjustments, you need to use the provided hex key and the scale disc.
The brightness of this mini red dot sight is automatically adjusted based on the ambient light. When at the lowest setting, it can be paired with night vision devices. When at the maximum setting, it can be used in bright daylight without problems.
The sight uses a unique mounting footprint developed by Shield. At first glance it looks like the Docter/Noblex footprint, but the notches are positioned closer together.
Two versions are available, the only difference being in the dot size: 4 MOA and 8 MOA. RMS comes in matte black colour (anodized finish). The device is parallax free.
A rubber cover is included in the box.
The product comes with 7 years of warranty. You can read more about the warranty policy here.
