History
Sightron was established in late 1993 in the town of Youngsville in North Carolina, United States with the goal of producing world-class sports optics with high-end features for a range of applications. The parent organization of Sightron, called Kenko Tokina, is a Japanese optical manufacturing company that produced high-quality optical elements for various optical giants at the time. With its roots going way back to 1957, Kenko produced all Sightron scopes in Japan in the initial years.
Starting in 2010, the production of all the mid-range and entry-level models was shifted to the Philippines. Contrary to the outsourcing business model, all products currently offered are manufactured in-house in factories owned by Sightron in Japan and Manila, Philippines. In the past 27 years, the company has become one of the best brands of sport optics with its products being sold in all major regions, including North America, Europe, and Asia.
As of today, the exquisite collection of optics offered by Sightron is quite overwhelming. Even after achieving immense success in the field of optics, Sightron has continued its innovation streak by incorporating technologically advanced features in its products. Some of these features that have revolutionized the optics industry are F.A.S.T. focus system, Zact-7 Revcoat Plus® fully multicoated lens coatings, ExacTrack revolutionary windage and elevation adjustment system, and limited lifetime warranty.
Production Facilities
Sightron is presently headquartered in the US, while its factories are located in Japan and the Philippines.
Youngsville, North Carolina, United States (Headquarters)
Sightron USA was founded as a joint venture in 1993 between the people at Kenko Topica of Japan and investors in the US. The venture gave rise to Sightron, a sport optics brand that is committed to meeting the requirements of diehard sportsmen for whom performance and reliability carry utmost importance. The company was established in Youngsville, North Carolina where it is still headquartered. All management operations, including marketing, sales, and supply chain are carried out in the US, whereas the actual manufacturing takes place in Japan and the Philippines.
Japan
Since the parent company of Sightron is Japan-based, the manufacturing of initial riflescopes, binoculars, and spotting scopes took place in Japan. The factory in Japan is entirely owned by Sightron and all products are made in-house, unlike some other brands which have outsourced the manufacturing of their products to vendors.
The production facility uses only the highest-grade of glass and metal alloys for making riflescopes. The manufacturing methods are well-developed and there is a strict quality control procedure that aims to reject manufactured parts with the slightest non-conformances. There is no denying that the scopes manufactured in Japan are second only to European products in terms of quality, reliability, and optical performance. As of 2021, all premium riflescope models offered by Sightron, namely the SIII and SV series, are produced in Japan.
Manila, Philippines
Before 2010, all Sightron products were manufactured in Japan. The demand for Sightron scopes skyrocketed in the mid-2000s prompting the company to look for ways to meet the demand and expand the business. A new manufacturing facility was established in the city of Manila, Philippines and the production of entry-level scopes, such as the SI and SII series, was shifted there.
While potential customers might not be fans of “Made in Philippines” riflescopes, the truth is these scopes are produced in-house and offer many of the same features available in pricier models. The quality of these affordable scopes might not be the same as that of Japanese-made scopes, it is definitely better than scopes from other brands in the same price bracket.
