In January 2024, we attended the Shot Show in Las Vegas, where our team had a chance to speak with the team at Riton about their new Riton 3 Tactix RDS. We came away with positive impressions and are here to provide an overview of its key features in this article.
Basic Features of the Riton 3 Tactix EED
At first glance, the dot might look bulky, but it brings a lot to the table. The 3 Tactix EED has a 3 MOA dot and offers a 90 MOA adjustment range, mainly aimed at handgun users. Moreover, Riton has smartly tackled the issue of battery placement once again.
Unlike on many red dot sights where the battery is at the bottom and requires re-zeroing after replacement, their design avoids this hassle as the battery compartment is positioned at the top of the RDS housing.
While RDS batteries typically last for years, meaning you won’t need to replace them frequently, it is still a thoughtful design choice that will likely attract many. Riton claims the RDS battery life is 50,000 hours, or about 5.7 years of continuous use, putting it in line with top competitors in the red dot sight market.
The 3 Tactix EED features integrated Shake Awake technology, which helps in conserving battery life by activating the dot when detecting motion and turning it off after 3 minutes of inactivity. Similar to the 1 Tactix EED, it is compatible with the Aimpoint Acro footprint, making it easy to find aftermarket adapters. Additionally, Riton provides a Glock MOS Plate and an RMSc adapter plate with the purchase.
The sight offers a large 21.8 mm x 15.8 mm viewing window, which helps in quickly spotting the target and locating the dot. The 3 Tactix EED is made from 6061 T6 Aluminum, giving it a strong yet compact build and it weighs only 42 g. It is also waterproof and shockproof, with testing up to 1200 g’s.
Final Thoughts
The 3 Tactix EED was released to the market in Q3 2023 and is priced at about 400 € in Europe, placing it at the higher end of Riton’s pricing scale. The device is backed by a 2-year warranty, consistent with most of Riton‘s electronic products. Although the sight is relatively large and bulky, its build quality and performance offer good value for its price. We also welcome the decision to include a top-mounted battery compartment and adopt the Acro mounting standard.
