Bushnell Prime 4-12x40

• 4-12x magnification range: Covers the practical middle ground for stalking, woodland edges, and open-field shots, giving enough low-end magnification for quick target pickup and enough top-end detail for careful shot placement at longer distances.
• Side-focus parallax adjustment: Lets the image and reticle stay optically aligned from 9.2m to infinity, which helps maintain a sharper sight picture and more precise aiming across changing distances.
• Second focal plane reticle: Keeps the reticle visually consistent through the zoom range, making it easy to see against dark game or cluttered backgrounds while preserving a familiar aiming picture.
• Fully multi-coated optics: Improves light transmission and contrast, which is especially useful in the first and last light of the day when hunting optics are often pushed hardest.
• IPX-7 waterproof, nitrogen-filled construction: Helps the scope stay reliable in rain, temperature swings, and damp field conditions, while the fogproof and shockproof build supports regular hunting use.

About the Bushnell Prime Series

The Bushnell Prime series sits in the brand’s hunting-oriented optics range as a practical line built around dependable field performance rather than unnecessary complexity. Introduced in 2018, the series includes familiar all-round riflescope formats such as 3-9x40, 4-12x40, and 6-18x50, covering everything from general stalking rifles to setups intended for longer shots from a fixed position. Across the series, Bushnell uses second focal plane reticles, a layout many hunters prefer because the reticle remains easy to see throughout the magnification range.

Prime riflescopes are built with fully multi-coated optics, waterproof construction, and nitrogen fog-proofing, giving the line a straightforward emphasis on clear viewing and weather resistance. Depending on the model, reticle options have included Multi-X and Drop Zone 22LR, while select versions add side parallax adjustment for better focus control at varying distances. The overall design philosophy of the series is simple: usable magnification ranges, conventional tube sizes, and durable construction suited to hunting rifles that spend real time outdoors.

About the Bushnell Prime 4-12x40

The Bushnell Prime 4-12x40 is a versatile hunting riflescope built for shooters who want one optic to handle mixed terrain and changing shot distances. Its 4-12x magnification range is well suited to stalking, high-seat use, and general-purpose centerfire hunting, where the lower setting keeps the image manageable at shorter ranges and the upper end gives enough detail for more deliberate aiming farther out. The 40.00 mm objective lens keeps the scope trim and easy to mount while still providing a bright, usable image for daylight and low-light field work.

This model uses a second focal plane reticle, so the reticle size stays constant as magnification changes. In practice, that gives a familiar sight picture and keeps the aiming point easy to pick up without becoming too fine at low power. The side-focus parallax adjustment, working from 9.2m to infinity, adds useful precision for varied shooting distances by sharpening the target image and reducing apparent reticle shift.

The mechanical layout also fits its hunting role well. Capped target-style turrets protect the adjustments from accidental movement during transport and field carry, while the 1/4 MOA click value allows controlled zeroing. With 56.00 MOA of elevation and windage adjustment, the scope offers enough internal travel for typical sporting rifle setups. A 25.4 mm tube, 325.00 mm length, and 464.00 g weight keep the package straightforward and well balanced on traditional hunting rifles.

About Bushnell

Bushnell was founded in 1948 by Dave Bushnell. He began by selling optical products through a photographic shop in Pasadena, California, and the company grew into a major name in sports optics and outdoor equipment. Bushnell’s core focus has long been practical optics for field use, with product categories that include riflescopes, binoculars, red dot sights, rangefinders, spotting scopes, and trail cameras.

Within shooting and hunting optics, Bushnell is known for broad product families such as Legend, Prime, Elite Tactical, and AR Optics, covering everything from general hunting rifles to more specialized tactical and precision applications. The company also uses proprietary features such as EXO Barrier, a lens coating developed to repel water, oil, dust, and debris. In 2013, ATK completed its acquisition of Bushnell Group Holdings, marking an important point in the company’s modern history.
