Shield Open Mini Sight Sub Compact OMSsc

• Translucent roof architecture: the open upper structure gives a less obstructed sight picture and lets more ambient light reach the sensor, helping the dot stay easier to pick up as lighting changes.
• Micro-compact concealed-carry format: with its small footprint and low-drag shape, the OMSsc adds minimal bulk to slim pistols and supports a cleaner draw from concealment.
• Automatic brightness control: the red dot adjusts intensity on its own, so the sight remains usable from dim indoor conditions to bright daylight without manual intervention.
• SHIELD standard footprint: the familiar mounting pattern supports broad compatibility and helps keep the sight low on the slide for a more natural presentation and potential co-witness with iron sights.
• Aluminium housing with glass lens: the metal body keeps weight down while standing up to daily carry, and the fully multicoated glass helps maintain a clear, undistorted view.

About the Shield OMS Series

The Shield OMS series is a dedicated family of open mini sights built around compact pistol use, with the range covering both the OMSsc for concealed-carry handguns and the OMSx for competition-oriented setups. Within Shield’s lineup, the OMS models sit as a distinct sight range that combines the company’s established mini red dot format with its translucent roof architecture, a design intended to reduce visual obstruction and open up the sight picture.

Across the series, Shield uses aluminum housings, glass lenses, automatic brightness adjustment, and the SHIELD mounting footprint. That gives the OMS family a consistent mechanical layout and broad mounting compatibility while keeping the sights compact enough for slide-mounted handgun use. The series is aimed at shooters who want the speed of a reflex sight in a very small package, whether the priority is discreet everyday carry or faster target transitions in practical shooting. In use, the OMS concept focuses on quick dot acquisition, a low mounting profile, and a simplified control layout, with the sight handling brightness automatically rather than relying on external adjustment buttons.

About the Shield Open Mini Sight Sub Compact OMSsc

The Shield Open Mini Sight Sub Compact OMSsc is the smallest, carry-focused member of the OMS family, designed specifically for concealed carry and small-form-factor handguns. Its compact dimensions, light 15.00 g weight, and low-profile body make it well suited to pistols where slide space is limited and where added bulk can affect concealment, holster fit, or draw speed. The Shield standard footprint also helps keep the optic low on the slide, which supports a more natural presentation and can assist with iron-sight co-witness on suitable direct-milled setups.

The sight uses a 4 MOA red dot, a practical size for defensive pistol shooting because it is quick to acquire at short to moderate distances without covering too much of the target. Automatic brightness adjustment keeps the dot visible as ambient light changes, reducing the need to manage settings under time pressure. Shield’s translucent roof design further supports fast sight acquisition by creating a more open visual impression and allowing more light to reach the sensor for more precise LED output.

Its fully multicoated glass lens is paired with a compact 17.35mm x 14.35mm window, balancing a clear sight picture with minimal overall size. The aluminium housing, along with waterproof, fogproof, and shockproof construction, suits the OMSsc to daily carry and regular training use. A CR1632 battery powers the sight for up to 9000.00 h, giving long service intervals in a format intended to stay on the pistol rather than be treated as occasional equipment.

About Shield Sights

Shield Sights traces its roots to 1983, when Shield International was formed in Great Britain. The company has long specialized in firearm sighting systems for military, law enforcement, and civilian users, with product lines that include mini red dot sights and rifle sights. Shield’s original mini red dot design dates to 1996, giving the brand a long-standing place in the development of compact slide-mounted optics.

Over the years, Shield mini red dot sights have also appeared under names such as Firepoint, Tasco Optima, Trijicon RedDot, and JPoint. The company also developed the Close Quarter Battlesight for the UK military and later introduced the civilian-oriented Close Quarter Sportsight in 2011. A defining part of Shield’s design approach is its patented mini-sight mechanism intended to allow co-witnessing with standard iron sights, reflecting the brand’s focus on compact, practical handgun optics.
