Braun Standard Porro 16x50 Product description

  • 16x magnification: brings distant subjects noticeably closer, making this binocular a practical choice for long-range observation where detail matters more than a very wide view.
  • 50 mm objective lenses: gather more light than compact binoculars, helping maintain a usable image in overcast conditions, at dusk, or during astronomy use.
  • Porro BK7 prism design: gives the binocular its classic shape and a strong sense of depth, which many users appreciate for scanning landscapes and tracking stationary subjects.
  • Central focusing with diopter adjustment: allows quick overall focusing and fine correction between the eyes, so the image can be tuned more precisely for extended viewing.
  • Fully multicoated optics and tripod socket: the coatings support contrast and glare control, while the tripod socket helps steady the 16x image for more comfortable long sessions.

About the Braun Standard Porro Series

The Braun Standard Porro series sits in the brand’s Classic binocular range and follows a traditional design built around Porro BK7 prisms and central focusing. The family includes both fixed-magnification and zoom models, giving it a broad role within Braun’s binocular lineup for general outdoor use, travel, leisure viewing, and entry-level long-distance observation. Across the series, Braun uses ULTRALIT® glass lenses, a feature that reflects the company’s focus on practical optical performance rather than compact styling alone.

These binoculars keep to a straightforward mechanical layout with a single-hinge body, fold-out rubber eyecups, and tripod sockets on the listed models. That combination makes the series easy to handle and adaptable to both handheld use and more stable supported viewing. Compared with slimmer roof-prism designs, the Standard Porro models prioritize a classic binocular feel, clear stereoscopic depth, and uncomplicated operation. The result is a product family aimed at users who want familiar handling, useful magnification options, and a traditional optical format for wildlife observation, casual astronomy, and everyday field use.

About the Braun Standard Porro 16x50

The Braun Standard Porro 16x50 is the higher-magnification fixed-power model in the series, built for users who need more reach than a general-purpose 8x or 10x binocular can provide. Its 16x magnification is well suited to long-distance landscape viewing, observation from fixed positions, and basic astronomy, where pulling distant detail closer matters more than having a very wide field. Paired with a 50.00 mm objective lens, it balances that stronger magnification with enough light-gathering ability for daytime use and brighter low-light scenes.

The binocular uses a Porro prism layout with fully multicoated optics, a combination that supports a natural sense of depth and helps preserve contrast across the image. A 73.00 m/1000m field of view is understandably narrower at this power, so the model is most at home when observing more static subjects or scanning methodically rather than following fast movement. The central focusing system keeps operation simple, while the -4 / +4 Dpt diopter range helps fine-tune the image to the user’s eyesight.

At 790.00 g, this is still manageable as a field binocular, but the built-in tripod socket is especially useful here because 16x magnification makes image shake more noticeable in handheld use. The waterproof construction adds reassurance for outdoor use, while the classic single-hinge body keeps the binocular straightforward to carry, set up, and use for extended viewing sessions.

About Braun

Karl Braun founded Karl Braun KG in 1915 in Germany, and the company’s roots were in optical instruments, metal goods and binoculars. In 1948, the business became Carl Braun Camera-Werk Nürnberg, reflecting its growing role in imaging products. The company later adopted the name BRAUN Photo Technik GmbH in 2004 and is now headquartered in Eutingen, Baden-Württemberg, Germany.

Within sport optics, Braun’s range includes binoculars and Ultralit spotting scopes, and binoculars returned to the company’s product range in 2007. That background is relevant here because it shows a long-standing connection to practical optical products rather than a recent expansion into the category. In Braun binoculars and spotting scopes alike, the brand emphasizes straightforward designs intended for observation use, with the Ultralit name also associated with its optical lens systems.

Most common questions (Q&A)

Need help? Not sure about something? Don't hesitate - ask our community! Our experienced community is here to help you with this question.

I would like to see the correct manual for the Braun Standard Porro 16x50 binoculars, not some generic one size fits they other guy’s item. I want to check the features before I advance these binoculars to my purchase list. For one, do these binoculars have dual diopter adjustments or just the right side? I’m not interested in wasting my money on this item if it’s only got a single diopter adjustment on it.
