Celestron AstroFi 102 Product description

  • 102 mm Maksutov-Cassegrain optics: The long 1325.00 mm focal length in a compact tube helps this telescope deliver strong lunar and planetary magnification without the bulk of a much longer instrument.
  • Built-in Wi-Fi control: The AstroFi mount works with Celestron’s SkyPortal app, making object selection, alignment, and GoTo operation more intuitive than a traditional hand controller for casual observing sessions.
  • Computerized tracking mount: With sidereal, lunar, and solar tracking rates, the telescope keeps objects centered more effectively, which is especially useful at higher magnifications.
  • Portable observing package: A 7.25 kg total kit weight, adjustable aluminium tripod, and short optical tube make the system easier to move, store, and set up for home use or travel.
  • Dual eyepiece setup: The included 25 mm and 10 mm eyepieces provide practical starting magnifications for scanning wider targets and then stepping up for closer views of the Moon and planets.

About the Celestron AstroFi Series

Celestron AstroFi is a telescope family built around computerized alt-azimuth mounts and integrated Wi-Fi, giving the series a more app-based approach than many traditional entry and mid-level instruments. Introduced in 2016, the range includes refractor, Newtonian reflector, and Maksutov-Cassegrain models, so users can choose a format that suits their observing priorities, whether that is compactness, wider-field viewing, or higher focal length in a shorter tube.

A defining feature of the series is its use of the SkyPortal app for wireless telescope control and object selection. Combined with SkyAlign, which aligns the telescope after centering three bright objects, the system reduces setup complexity and makes GoTo observing more approachable. AstroFi models are intended for both celestial and terrestrial viewing, so the series suits users who want a flexible telescope for Moon and planet sessions, brighter deep-sky targets, and daytime long-distance observation. Across the range, the design philosophy emphasizes straightforward setup, compact transport, and electronically assisted navigation rather than purely manual operation.

About the Celestron AstroFi 102

The Celestron AstroFi 102 is the Maksutov-Cassegrain model in the series, combining a 102.00 mm aperture with a 1325.00 mm focal length and f/13 focal ratio. In practice, that configuration favors the Moon, planets, and other smaller bright targets, where the longer focal length helps reach useful magnification with standard eyepieces. The compact optical tube, at 381 mm long, is also easier to handle than a telescope with a similar focal length built around a longer tube design.

The telescope’s computerized alt-azimuth mount adds practical convenience in the field. Built-in Wi-Fi allows wireless control through the SkyPortal app, while tracking modes for Alt-Az, EQ North, and EQ South and tracking rates for lunar, sidereal, and solar help keep selected objects in view once aligned. That matters most when observing at higher powers, where manual repositioning becomes more frequent and more distracting.

The included 25 mm and 10 mm eyepieces provide 53x and 132x magnification, covering a practical range for general observing straight out of the box. A StarPointer finderscope helps with initial target acquisition, while the adjustable aluminium tripod gives the system a stable base without making the overall kit overly heavy. With 212.00 x light gathering power compared to the human eye and a limiting stellar magnitude of 12.5, the AstroFi 102 also has enough reach for brighter clusters, nebulae, and galaxies beyond basic lunar and planetary use.

About Celestron

Celestron was founded in 1960 as Celestron-Pacific, an astro-optical division of Valor Electronics. The company is based in Torrance, California, United States, and focuses on telescopes, binoculars, spotting scopes, microscopes, and related optical products. That long involvement in consumer astronomy is especially relevant to the AstroFi 102, which reflects Celestron’s emphasis on making sky observation more accessible through practical optical design and user-friendly electronics.

Alongside its astronomy equipment, Celestron also produces a broad sport optics range that includes binoculars, spotting scopes, and monoculars. Its reputation is closely tied to entry-level and intermediate telescopes that combine approachable operation with useful observing capability, and the company has consistently developed products that bring computerized pointing, tracking, and mobile-device integration into more accessible telescope lines.
