Vortex Diamondback Tactical 4-16x44 FFP

• First Focal Plane reticle: The reticle scales with magnification, so holdovers and ranging remain consistent throughout the zoom range. That makes the scope easier to use for practical long-range shooting where magnification often changes between stages or targets.
• 4-16x magnification range: This zoom span covers precise work from mid-range distances out to extended ranges, giving the shooter enough low-end field of view for target acquisition and enough top-end magnification for careful shot placement.
• Exposed tactical turrets: The multi-turn turret layout is built for dialing elevation and windage corrections instead of leaving the scope set-and-forget. This is especially useful for training, recreational long-range work, and learning external ballistics in a hands-on way.
• Side parallax adjustment: Adjustable parallax from 18 m to infinity helps keep the target and reticle on the same focal plane, reducing aiming error and sharpening the image as distances change.
• 30 mm nitrogen-filled tube: The one-piece-style tactical format combines useful internal adjustment range with waterproof, fogproof, and shockproof construction, giving the scope the durability needed for regular range use and changing weather.

About the Vortex Diamondback Tactical Series

Vortex Diamondback Tactical is the tactical branch of the broader Diamondback riflescope family, aimed at shooters who want a practical entry point into dialing corrections and shooting at distance. Vortex positions the series for long-range and recreational shooting, with models intended to take shooters from ordinary mid-range work out toward 1,000 yards. That makes the line especially relevant for newer shooters learning how elevation and windage adjustments work in real use, as well as experienced users who want a straightforward training optic.

A defining trait of the series is its use of exposed tactical turrets, which encourage active dialing rather than a simple holdover-only approach. Depending on model, the range includes both first-focal-plane and second-focal-plane configurations, along with reticle options such as VMR-1 and EBR-2C. The family spans multiple formats, including 3-9x40, 4-12x40, and 6-24x50 models, so the series covers everything from compact practical setups to higher-magnification long-range rifles. Across the line, the design philosophy stays consistent: clear, usable optics, a durable mechanical layout, and controls that help shooters build confidence with corrections instead of relying on a more complicated feature set.

About the Vortex Diamondback Tactical 4-16x44 FFP

The Vortex Diamondback Tactical 4-16x44 FFP sits in a particularly useful part of the tactical riflescope market because its 4-16x magnification is broad enough for general-purpose precision shooting without becoming oversized or overly specialized. At the low end, it remains manageable for target transitions and positional shooting; at the high end, it offers the magnification needed for more deliberate work on small targets and for reading impacts at longer distances. The 44 mm objective lens keeps the scope trim enough for practical rifle setups while still supporting a bright, clear sight picture.

Its first focal plane reticle is one of the model’s key strengths. Because the reticle changes size with magnification, subtensions stay valid across the zoom range, which is valuable for holdovers, ranging, and rapid corrections when there is no time to return to one preset power. The absence of illumination keeps the layout simple and focused on daylight precision use. Combined with the side-focus parallax adjustment, which runs from 18 m to infinity, the scope is well suited to shooters who regularly move between distances and want a cleaner, more precise image.

The mechanical layout reinforces that role. Tactical multi-turn turrets are designed for repeated dialing, with 24.71 mrad / 82.00 MOA of elevation and windage adjustment available. The 30 mm tube, fully multicoated optics, fast-focus eyepiece, and waterproof, fogproof, shockproof construction make this a practical riflescope for range rifles, training rifles, and straightforward long-range setups where reliable tracking and usable magnification matter more than extra complexity.

About Vortex

Vortex traces its roots to a Wild Birds Unlimited store opened by the Hamilton family in Madison, Wisconsin, in 1986. The brand entered the sport optics market in 2002 and is now headquartered in Barneveld, Wisconsin, where it operates as an employee-owned company. Its core focus is sport optics for hunting, shooting, and outdoor use, with product lines that include riflescopes, binoculars, spotting scopes, laser rangefinders, and red dots.

Within the shooting optics category, Vortex is known for building broad product families that cover entry-level through premium use cases, including lines such as Razor, Viper, and Kaibab. The company also develops supporting ballistic tools using GeoBallistics technology, showing a wider emphasis on practical field use rather than optics alone. In 2022, Vortex was selected to produce and deliver fire-control systems for the U.S. Army’s Next Generation Squad Weapons program, a notable point in the company’s development within modern shooting and aiming systems.
