Discovery Optics VT-Z 6-24x40 SF FFP Product description

  • 6-24x magnification range: Covers everything from deliberate zeroing and small-target work to longer-range holdovers, giving the scope enough top-end power for precision shooting while remaining usable at lower magnification for general field work.
  • First focal plane reticle: The reticle scales with magnification, so subtensions stay consistent throughout the zoom range. That makes holdovers and ranging more intuitive when magnification changes during a stage or in the field.
  • Side focus from 10 m to infinity: Close parallax adjustment makes this model especially practical for airgun and rimfire use, while still allowing precise focus and reduced aiming error at longer distances.
  • Lockable tactical turrets: The exposed turrets are built for regular dialing, and the locking function helps prevent accidental movement when the rifle is carried, cased, or moved between positions.
  • 30 mm nitrogen-filled tube: The one-piece-style format supports a solid mounting platform, while the waterproof, fogproof and shockproof construction helps the scope stay serviceable in changing weather and repeated recoil.

About the Discovery Optics VT-Z Series

The Discovery Optics VT-Z series is a family of riflescopes built around practical versatility for hunting and airgun use. Within the Discovery Optics lineup, VT-Z models cover both fixed-power and variable-power formats, with examples ranging from compact 4x scopes to broader zoom ranges such as 3-12x, 4-16x, and 6-24x. That spread gives the series a flexible role, from straightforward field shooting to more deliberate target work.

A defining trait of the VT-Z range is its mix of configurations rather than a single rigid formula. The series includes first-focal-plane and second-focal-plane models, along with illuminated and non-illuminated versions, so users can choose between simpler daylight-oriented setups and reticle systems better suited to holdover-based shooting. Some VT-Z scopes also use side-parallax focusing, which is especially useful on air rifles, rimfire rifles, and other setups where shooting distances can vary sharply. Reticle options such as MIL-DOT and MIL-line patterns reflect the series’ emphasis on practical aiming references rather than purely cosmetic design.

About the Discovery Optics VT-Z 6-24x40 SF FFP

The Discovery Optics VT-Z 6-24x40 SF FFP is configured for shooters who need a compact riflescope with enough magnification for careful shot placement and enough adjustment control for regular dialing. Its 6-24x zoom range makes it well suited to rimfire, airgun, and light precision roles where targets are small and distances can change from very close to moderately long. The 40 mm objective keeps the scope trim compared with larger high-magnification optics, which helps maintain a balanced rifle setup.

The first focal plane reticle is one of the model’s most useful features in practice. Because the reticle grows and shrinks with magnification, hold marks remain proportionally correct across the zoom range. That matters when a shooter moves away from maximum magnification but still wants reliable subtensions for holdover and wind calls. This model is also non-illuminated, which keeps operation simple and avoids dependence on battery-powered reticle lighting.

For adjustment, the scope uses lockable tactical turrets with up to 10.18 mrad of elevation and windage travel. That layout suits shooters who prefer exposed controls for repeatable corrections but still want protection against accidental turret movement. The side-focus system adjusts from 10 m to infinity, a particularly useful range for airgun and rimfire shooting where parallax error becomes noticeable at short distances. A fast-focus eyepiece speeds up reticle sharpening, while the fully multicoated optics, nitrogen filling, and waterproof, fogproof, shockproof construction support dependable use in mixed outdoor conditions.

About Discovery Optics

Discovery Optics states that it was established in 2009 and operates from Bao'an, Shenzhen, Guangdong, China. The company focuses on electro-optical sighting devices, with a catalog that includes rifle scopes for shooting and hunting as well as thermal imaging products. Its riflescope range spans multiple families, including XED, ED, LHD, and HD series, which shows a broad approach from entry-level and field-oriented optics to more specialized precision models.

In the riflescope category, Discovery Optics offers both first-focal-plane and second-focal-plane reticles, reflecting a product strategy aimed at different shooting styles rather than a single standard format. That breadth is relevant to the VT-Z line, which sits within a portfolio built around practical optical tools for hunting, training, and target use.

How does it handle 308 cal from a semi-automatic?

by Aleksandar Nikolic

Dear Sir!

The Discovery Optics VT-Z 6-24x40 SF FFP is not recommended for long-term use on a .308 Win semi-automatic rifle.

While the scope is often marketed with high shock resistance (e.g. up to 1000G), it is primarily designed for air rifles and rimfire platforms. Semi-automatic .308 rifles generate more complex recoil impulses, which can place excessive stress on entry-level optics.

For reliable long-term performance on .308 semi-automatic platforms, we recommend a higher-grade optic designed for centerfire cartridges.
