Shilba Varmint 4-16x40

• 4-16x variable magnification: The wide zoom range lets the scope cover close-to-medium stalking distances at 4x and move into more deliberate varmint or target work at 16x, so one optic can handle different shooting styles without feeling over-specialized.
• Adjustable objective parallax: Objective-mounted parallax correction helps keep the target and reticle on the same focal plane, which makes precise shot placement easier when magnification is turned up and small aiming errors become more noticeable.
• 1-inch nitrogen-filled tube: The 25.4 mm tube keeps the scope compatible with common ring sizes, while the nitrogen-filled construction helps prevent internal fogging when temperature and weather conditions change in the field.
• Second focal plane reticle: An SFP layout keeps the reticle visually consistent through the zoom range, giving a familiar sight picture that many hunters and recreational target shooters find easy to use at different magnification settings.
• Capped multi-turn turrets: Capped turrets protect the settings from accidental movement during transport or rough handling, while the multi-turn design still provides the adjustment travel needed for careful zeroing and range work.

About the Shilba Varmint Series

The Shilba Varmint series sits in the brand’s telescopic-sight range as a practical line of 1-inch riflescopes built for shooters who want more adjustment features than a basic hunting optic. Within the Shilba lineup, the series is aimed at users who split their time between field use and deliberate target shooting, where a simple fixed-power scope may feel limiting. The design emphasis is on useful control rather than bulk: parallax correction, diopter adjustment and a nitrogen-sealed body all support clearer aiming across changing distances and conditions.

Shilba describes the Varmint family as suitable for daytime and nighttime shooting, with construction that is water-resistant, shock-resistant and antifungal-treated for regular outdoor use. The series also stands out for its HD300 lenses, tactical-style turrets and 1/4 MOA adjustment system, features that make it more adaptable for shooters who want to fine-tune zero and hold with greater precision. Depending on version, the Varmint line is offered with illuminated reticle options, including red, green and blue settings, giving the series a broader role than a simple daylight hunting scope.

About the Shilba Varmint 4-16x40

The Shilba Varmint 4-16x40 is a variable-power riflescope built for shooters who need one optic to cover general hunting, vermin control and range practice. Its 4-16x magnification range gives a useful spread: lower power is easier to manage when scanning or taking quicker shots, while the upper end helps place shots more precisely on small targets or when testing loads from the bench. The 40.00 mm objective lens keeps the scope relatively trim while still providing enough front-end light gathering for normal daylight and fading-light use.

This model uses a second focal plane reticle, so the reticle size stays visually constant as magnification changes. In practice, that gives a cleaner and more familiar sight picture for shooters who prefer the same reticle appearance at 4x and 16x. The scope also includes objective parallax adjustment, an important feature on a 16x optic because it helps reduce aiming error at longer or changing distances and sharpens the image for more exact shot placement.

Mechanically, the Varmint 4-16x40 is set up with capped turrets and CCW rotation, a sensible arrangement for a hunting-oriented scope that may still see careful zero work on the range. The 25.4 mm tube, nitrogen filling, waterproof, fogproof and shockproof construction all support dependable field use, while the 380.00 mm length and 580.00 g weight keep the scope substantial enough for stability without becoming overly heavy on a sporting rifle.

About Shilba

Shilba traces its origins to 1960, when the brand began in an optical workshop near Osaka, Japan. The company developed around sporting optics, and its range today includes riflescopes, binoculars, monoculars, spotting scopes, and scope mounts and rings. A key part of its early history came in 1975, when technicians from Argentina traveled to Japan to develop a riflescope intended for hare hunting, linking the brand closely with practical field shooting from an early stage.

In 1981, the owner of the Japanese factory sold the Shilba brand, its expertise and its contacts to the current owners. The first two riflescope models, 4×32 and 4×40, sold out in under 60 days, helping establish the brand in sporting optics. Shilba later expanded beyond its home market, exporting to neighboring Latin American countries in 2000 and beginning commercial distribution in Spain in 2004. That background explains the brand’s continued focus on accessible, field-oriented optical equipment.
