Hawke Vantage 4-12x40 AO Product description

  • Adjustable Objective Parallax from 9 Metres: The adjustable objective (AO) ring provides parallax correction from 9 metres to infinity, enabling precise parallax elimination across a wide range of shooting distances — from close-range airgun and rimfire use through to longer-range centrefire hunting. At the higher magnification levels of this scope's range, accurate parallax correction is particularly relevant as parallax errors become more apparent and can affect point of aim.
  • Two Reticle Options — 30/30 Duplex and Mil Dot: The scope is available in two non-illuminated reticle variants. The 30/30 Duplex (art. no. 14140) provides a traditional, clean hunting crosshair for fast and unobtrusive target acquisition. The Mil Dot (art. no. 14141) adds evenly spaced mil dots for holdover reference and rough ranging — and also offers a slightly larger adjustment range of 100 MOA compared to 80 MOA on the Duplex variant.
  • 4–12× Magnification for Extended Hunting and Field Use: The 4–12× magnification range with a 3× zoom ratio provides a field of view of 8.7 metres at 100 metres at minimum power for target identification at moderate distances, and a 12× upper end for precise shot placement at longer ranges than is typically practical with a 3-9× scope.
  • H2 Optical System with 11-Layer Fully Multi-Coated Lenses: The H2 optical system with 11-layer fully multi-coated lenses and 40mm objective delivers consistent light transmission and a clear image across the magnification range. An exit pupil of 10 mm at 4× provides adequate image brightness in typical field conditions.
  • Capped Low-Profile Turrets for Zero Protection: The capped, low-profile, resettable turrets protect the zero from accidental movement during carry, allowing the scope to be zeroed at the range and maintained through the season without risk of unintentional adjustment.

About the Vantage Series

The Hawke Vantage series is the broadest riflescope lineup in Hawke's product range, built on the H2 optical system and covering a wide variety of tube diameters, magnification ranges, and reticle configurations at an accessible price point. The range is designed for hunters, target shooters, and recreational shooters who require a reliable, versatile optic without the cost associated with higher-tier optical systems.

All Vantage models feature 11-layer fully multi-coated lenses delivering consistent light transmission across the magnification range. The lineup spans standard 1-inch, 30mm, and 34mm mono-tube chassis, covering first and second focal plane optics, adjustable objective and fixed parallax variants, illuminated and non-illuminated reticles, and a broad selection of reticle designs. The Vantage 4-12x40 AO represents the adjustable parallax configuration within the 4-12× class, suited to shooters who engage targets across a range of distances and require precise parallax correction at each — particularly for airgun, rimfire, and longer-range centrefire use.

About the Model (Hawke Vantage 4-12x40 AO)

The Hawke Vantage 4-12x40 AO is a non-illuminated riflescope designed for hunters, airgun shooters, and target shooters who need a 4–12× optical platform with adjustable objective parallax correction across a wide range of distances. The 4–12× magnification range with a 3× zoom ratio provides a field of view of 8.7 metres at 100 metres at minimum power and a 12× upper end for accurate shot placement at distances beyond the practical range of lower-powered configurations.

The 40mm objective lens, combined with the H2 optical system and 11-layer fully multi-coated lenses, delivers consistent light transmission and a clear image across the magnification range. An exit pupil of 10 mm at 4× provides adequate image brightness in typical field conditions. The 90mm of eye relief and standard 1-inch tube diameter ensure compatibility with a wide range of platforms and mounting systems.

Two reticle variants are available. The 30/30 Duplex (art. no. 14140) provides a traditional hunting crosshair for clean, fast target acquisition, with 80 MOA of elevation and windage adjustment in ¼ MOA click increments. The Mil Dot (art. no. 14141) adds evenly spaced mil dots along both axes for holdover estimation and rough ranging, and offers a slightly larger 100 MOA of adjustment travel in the same ¼ MOA click increments. Both variants use capped, low-profile, resettable turrets and share the same AO parallax ring covering 9 metres to infinity. The fast-focus eyebell allows rapid dioptre adjustment. Both mono-tubes are nitrogen purged and fully sealed, providing waterproof, fogproof, and shockproof performance rated for all calibres. Overall length is 346 mm and weight is 485 g.

About Hawke

Hawke Optics is a British optics brand registered in England and Wales, with products distributed across Europe, North America, and international markets. The company produces a broad range of optical products including riflescopes, airgun scopes, binoculars, spotting scopes, red dot sights, and laser rangefinders, covering applications from hunting and precision shooting to nature observation and marine use.

Hawke organises its riflescope lineup into distinct optical system tiers — from the entry-level H2 through H5 to the flagship H7 — with each tier reflecting the glass specification, coating technology, and mechanical feature level of the products within it. The Vantage series is built on the H2 system, representing the entry level of Hawke's riflescope range and providing an extensive selection of configurations at an accessible price point.

Dear Sir,

thank you for contacting us.

We kindly apologize for the late reply, which is a result of the increased demand for our services.

There is a variety of reasons why the riflescope cannot be adjusted. It depends on the zeroing distance, the caliber of your rifle, and the functionality of the riflescope.

If you presume that something is wrong with the scope we would suggest sending it in for repairs.

Should you require any further assistance, please do not hesitate to contact us again.

Kind Regards,

How do you rate this product?

Good for airguns, light rimfires and low recoil centerfires

I had this scope on a HW50 air rifle and moved it to a Winchester .243 with equally good results. On the centerfire, the adjustable objective is of less importance, but still has its uses. The light transmition is great. Overall a fantastic scope for the price.
