Kowa GENESIS 8x22 with XD-Lens

• XD objective lenses: Kowa’s XD glass helps reduce chromatic aberration, so fine detail stays cleaner and high-contrast edges show less color fringing in daylight observation.
• Compact dual-hinge body: The short 105.00 mm format folds down easily for travel, hiking, and everyday carry while still giving the stable two-handed handling expected from a proper binocular.
• Roof prism design with full multicoating: The Schmidt/Pechan prism system keeps the binocular slim, while fully multicoated optics support better contrast and more efficient light transmission in a pocket-sized format.
• Nitrogen-filled waterproof construction: Sealing against water and internal fogging makes the binocular more dependable when moving between changing temperatures or using it in wet outdoor conditions.
• 8x22 configuration: The 8x magnification gives useful reach for travel and nature observation, while the 22 mm objective keeps weight down to 315.00 g for comfortable all-day portability.

About the Kowa Genesis Series

Kowa Genesis is the company’s flagship binocular series, built for users who want premium optical design in formats suited to field observation, travel, and general outdoor use. The range spans 44 mm, 33 mm, and 22 mm classes, giving the series a broader role than a single full-size hunting optic or compact travel model. Across the line, Kowa uses XD objective lenses made from high-resolution ED glass containing fluorite crystal, a core feature that helps the series control color fringing and preserve fine detail.

The Genesis family combines roof prisms with Kowa C3 prism coatings and KR lens coating, reflecting a design approach focused on practical field performance rather than bulk. Waterproof construction and dry nitrogen filling are standard themes in the series, supporting reliable use in changing weather and humid conditions. Within the lineup, users can choose between 8x and 10x options in the compact and mid-size models, while the larger 44 mm class also includes 8.5x and 10.5x versions. That makes the series suitable for birding, wildlife observation, travel, and outdoor glassing where image fidelity, manageable size, and dependable mechanics matter equally.

About the Kowa GENESIS 8x22 with XD-Lens

The Kowa GENESIS 8x22 with XD-Lens is the most travel-friendly expression of the Genesis concept, combining 8x magnification with a compact 22.00 mm objective in a body that measures only 105.00 mm in length. This format suits users who want a binocular that is easy to carry every day but still delivers the controlled image quality expected from a premium roof-prism design. The 8x power is a sensible choice for handheld use because it offers useful reach without becoming overly sensitive to movement, which helps when observing wildlife, landscapes, architecture, or sporting events on the move.

Kowa’s XD objective lenses are central to this model’s appeal, helping maintain cleaner edges and better color correction in difficult high-contrast scenes. The Roof - Schmidt/Pechan prism layout keeps the binocular slim, while Fully Multicoated optics support contrast and image brightness within the limits of a pocket-sized instrument. A 131.25 m/1000m field of view gives this compact binocular an open, easy-to-follow image, which is especially useful when tracking moving subjects.

Mechanically, the binocular is designed for practical field use. The dual-hinge body folds compactly for transport, the central focusing system allows quick adjustment, and diopter setting on both eye-pieces helps fine-tune the view. Nitrogen filling and waterproof construction add reassurance in damp or changeable weather, while the modest 315.00 g weight keeps it comfortable in a jacket pocket, daypack, or travel kit.

About Kowa

Kowa traces its origins to 1894, when Hattori Kanesaburo Wholesale Store was founded in Nagoya, Japan. The company entered optical equipment manufacturing in 1946, first producing spectacle lenses and opera glasses, and it expanded its reputation quickly in post-war Japan. In 1952, Kowa released the TS-1 and TS-2, described as Japan’s first spotting scopes, establishing a foundation in precision sporting optics that still shapes the brand today.

The company, renamed Kowa Company, Ltd. in 1960 and still headquartered in Nagoya, Aichi, is particularly well known for binoculars and spotting scopes. Its PROMINAR optics are associated with the use of pure fluorite crystal, while other models, including binoculars in the Genesis family, use XD optical elements to improve resolution and color correction. Kowa’s long-standing presence in observation optics, including selection of its spotting scopes for the 1964 Tokyo Olympics shooting events, underpins its strong reputation among demanding field users.
