Flir Scout III 320 Product description

  • 336x256 thermal sensor: The Scout III 320 resolves heat signatures clearly enough for fast scanning and positive detection, helping distinguish people, animals, and other warm objects when visible light is poor or absent.
  • 60 Hz refresh rate: A fast image update keeps moving subjects easier to follow and makes panning more natural, which is especially useful when observing from a vehicle or tracking motion across uneven ground.
  • Compact 1x handheld format: The 1x optical view preserves a natural sense of scale and orientation, while the light 340.00 g body is easy to carry for long periods without adding bulk to a field kit.
  • Selectable thermal viewing modes: White-hot, black-hot, and InstAlert modes let the user adapt the image to terrain and target contrast, making hot objects stand out more quickly in brush, haze, or glare.
  • Weather-tight construction: Waterproof and fogproof sealing, together with operation in harsh temperatures, make the monocular dependable for outdoor use where rain, spray, and sudden temperature changes can affect ordinary optics.

About the Flir Scout III Series

The Flir Scout III Series is a family of handheld thermal imaging monoculars developed for users who need fast heat-source detection rather than conventional daylight detail. FLIR positioned the series for law enforcement, hunters, and outdoor enthusiasts, with an emphasis on simple operation, quick start-up, and dependable field handling. As a legacy range in FLIR’s handheld lineup, Scout III models were built to detect people, animals, and objects by their heat signatures in darkness, haze, and difficult lighting where standard optics lose contrast.

A key characteristic of the series is its practical, observation-first design. These monoculars are intended for scanning terrain, monitoring movement, and maintaining situational awareness, including use around moving targets or from moving vehicles. The range includes 240, 320, and 640 variants, giving users different levels of thermal resolution within the same familiar housing. FLIR also equipped the series with white-hot, black-hot, and InstAlert image modes, allowing the image to be adapted to changing backgrounds and target contrast. The result is a compact thermal platform focused on fast detection, straightforward controls, and reliable outdoor use.

About the Flir Scout III 320

The Flir Scout III 320 is the middle-resolution model in the series, combining a 336x256 microbolometer sensor with a wide 17.00 ° field of view for efficient short- to mid-range scanning. This balance makes it well suited to handheld observation where the priority is finding movement quickly across woodland edges, open fields, tracks, or shoreline rather than studying fine visual detail. Its 550.00 m detection range gives the user enough reach to pick up heat sources well before they are visible with the naked eye.

The optical layout is built around 1.00 x native magnification, which keeps the image intuitive and helps preserve awareness of the surrounding area during movement. A digital zoom function extending to 2.00 x provides extra image scale when checking a detected heat source, while the 640x480 LCD display presents the thermal image clearly in a compact handheld format. The 60.00 Hz refresh rate is especially useful for tracking moving subjects smoothly, and the automatic calibration system helps maintain a stable image during use.

Mechanically, the Scout III 320 is designed for field carry. Its 170.00 mm body and 340.00 g weight keep it easy to pack or hold for extended observation, while the Li-ion power system supports about 5.00 h of operation. Waterproof and fogproof construction, together with a wide operating temperature range, make this thermal monocular a practical tool for outdoor search, wildlife observation, and general situational awareness in poor visibility.

About Flir

FLIR Systems was established in 1978 to develop infrared thermal imaging systems for airborne applications. The company was headquartered in Wilsonville, Oregon, United States, and built its reputation around thermal imaging and related sensing systems for commercial, industrial, and government use. Over time, FLIR expanded its capabilities through acquisitions including Agema in 1998, Inframetrics in 1999, and Indigo Systems in 2003, strengthening its position in infrared technology.

In the outdoor optics segment, FLIR became particularly well known for handheld thermal devices that translate heat differences into usable imagery for detection and observation. Its Scout family reflects that expertise, bringing thermal imaging into compact field monoculars for outdoor and professional users. Teledyne Technologies acquired FLIR in 2021, adding the brand’s long-established thermal and sensing experience to a broader technology portfolio.
