Bushnell Legend 3-9x40

• 3-9x magnification range: This classic hunting riflescope magnification span covers close woodland shots at 3x and gives enough image scale at 9x for more precise placement across open ground.
• 40 mm objective lens: The objective size keeps the scope compact and easy to mount while still gathering enough light for the dawn and dusk conditions where stalking riflescopes are often used.
• Illuminated reticle: Reticle illumination helps the aiming point stand out against dark game, shaded backgrounds, or low-contrast targets, making the scope easier to use in difficult light.
• Fully multi-coated optics: Multi-coated lenses improve light transmission and contrast, which helps with target definition, cleaner sight pictures, and less eye strain during longer sessions in the field.
• Waterproof, fogproof, shockproof build: The sealed and rugged construction supports dependable use in rain, temperature changes, and repeated recoil, so the scope remains practical for regular hunting use.

About the Bushnell Legend Series

The Bushnell Legend series sits in Bushnell’s hunting optics range as a practical line of riflescopes built around fully multi-coated optics and waterproof construction. The series is aimed at hunters who want a straightforward optic for stalking, general-purpose field shooting, and mixed-distance use without moving into heavier tactical designs. Across the documented models, the line covers familiar hunting configurations such as 3-9x40, 4-12x40, and 6-18x50, giving the series a broad role from short-to-medium range hunting to more deliberate shot placement at longer distances.

A defining feature of the Legend family is Bushnell’s EXO Barrier on exterior lens surfaces, a protective coating intended to repel water, oil, fog, dust, and debris. In practice, that helps the glass stay clearer in wet weather and reduces the need for constant wiping in the field. Bushnell also states that Legend scopes are parallax-free at 100 yards, which suits the kind of real-world hunting distances these scopes are commonly used for. Some variants use the CF500 reticle with aiming references out to 500 yards, while other models include illuminated reticle options, giving the series flexibility for different hunting styles and light conditions.

About the Bushnell Legend 3-9x40

The Bushnell Legend 3-9x40 is a classic all-round hunting riflescope built for the kind of shooting distances most stalking and general game rifles see in the field. Its 3-9x magnification makes it versatile: 3x gives a wider view and faster target pickup at shorter ranges, while 9x provides enough detail for more careful shot placement when the distance opens up. Paired with a 40.00 mm objective lens, the scope stays trim and easy to carry, which matters on a rifle that may be slung all day.

The optical system uses fully multicoated lenses to improve brightness and contrast, helping the image remain usable in the low, flat light that often defines early morning and late evening hunting. An illuminated reticle adds another practical advantage by making the aiming point easier to distinguish against dark animals or cluttered backgrounds. With a field of view from 12.50 m/100m to 4.07 m/100m, the scope balances awareness at low power with the tighter sight picture needed at higher magnification.

Mechanically, this model follows a straightforward hunting format. The 25.4 mm tube fits common 1 inch rings, and the capped turrets protect the adjustments from accidental movement while carrying the rifle through brush or in a vehicle. A fixed 91,44 m parallax setting keeps operation simple, and the 89.00 mm eye relief supports a comfortable shooting position. At 419.00 g and 299.00 mm long, it remains light enough for practical field use without making the rifle feel top-heavy.

About Bushnell

Bushnell was founded in 1948 by Dave Bushnell. He began selling optical products from a photographic shop in Pasadena, California, and the company grew into a well-known name in sports optics and outdoor equipment. Bushnell’s core focus includes optics for hunting, target shooting, birding, and nature observation, with product categories spanning binoculars, riflescopes, red dot sights, rangefinders, spotting scopes, and trail cameras.

Within riflescopes and related field optics, Bushnell is known for broad, application-focused product families such as Legend, Prime, Elite Tactical, and AR Optics. One of the company’s notable optical technologies is EXO Barrier, a lens coating developed to repel water, oil, dust, and debris from exposed glass surfaces. That emphasis on practical field durability is a good fit for hunting riflescopes such as the Legend series, where clear lenses and dependable weather resistance matter as much as magnification.
