Leupold BX-5 Santiam HD 15x56

• 15x magnification with 56 mm objectives: gives this binocular the reach to evaluate distant animals, terrain features, or targets in detail while the large front lenses help maintain useful image brightness for dawn, dusk, and overcast conditions.
• Abbe/Koenig roof prisms: improve light transmission and preserve contrast at long range, which matters when fine detail is hard to separate from shadow, brush, or dark backgrounds.
• Open-bridge body: makes a large 15x56 binocular easier to carry and steadier to handle, especially during long glassing sessions or when lifting it repeatedly from chest harness to eyes.
• 18.00 mm eye relief and twist-up eyecups: provide a more forgiving viewing position for extended observation and make the binocular easier to use comfortably with or without glasses.
• Argon-filled waterproof and fogproof construction: helps the optic stay clear through rain, temperature swings, and elevation changes, reducing the chance of internal fogging when conditions turn difficult.

About the Leupold BX-5 Santiam Series

The Leupold BX-5 Santiam series sits in the brand’s upper hunting-binocular range and is built for users who spend long periods behind glass. The line was developed for hunters who need to locate and assess game at distance, and it combines a Professional-Grade optical system with a practical field-oriented chassis rather than a compact travel format. Across the series, the emphasis is on strong low-light performance, glare control, and the kind of resolution that helps separate animals from background cover during the first and last light of the day.

Twilight Max HD light management is a defining part of the BX-5 Santiam concept, helping the binocular remain useful when contrast is low and shadows are deep. The series also uses an open-bridge design for a secure hold and easier one-handed carry, while Guard-ion lens coating helps shed water and dirt in poor weather. With configurations ranging from general-purpose 8x42 models to higher-magnification options for long-range glassing, the BX-5 Santiam family is aimed squarely at serious hunting and observation use where image quality and all-day handling matter as much as raw magnification.

About the Leupold BX-5 Santiam HD 15x56

The Leupold BX-5 Santiam HD 15x56 is the long-range specialist in the series. Its 15x magnification gives it enough reach to judge antlers, pick apart distant hillsides, or study targets in detail, making it a strong choice when a standard 8x or 10x binocular leaves too much unresolved. At the same time, the 56.00 mm objective lenses provide the light-gathering ability needed to keep the image usable in the low-light periods when game is often most active. This combination makes the 15x56 format especially relevant for open-country hunting, mountain observation, and range work where detail at distance matters more than compact size.

The optical layout uses Abbe/Koenig roof prisms, a design valued for efficient light transmission and strong contrast. In practical use, that helps preserve subtle detail in dark timber, shaded folds, and mixed backgrounds where animals can disappear into the scene. The fully multicoated lenses support brightness, color fidelity, and glare control, while the 70.18 m/1000m field of view remains wide enough to scan methodically without feeling overly restrictive for a binocular of this power.

Physically, this model is built around an open-bridge body with central focusing, which makes a large binocular easier to grip securely and refocus quickly. 18.00 mm eye relief and a -4 / +4 Dpt diopter range help users fine-tune the view for comfortable extended glassing, including with eyewear. The argon-filled housing is waterproof and fogproof, so the binocular is suited to wet weather, cold mornings, and changing elevations where internal condensation can otherwise become a problem.

About Leupold

Leupold & Volpel was founded in Portland, Oregon, in 1907 by Fred Leupold and Adam Volpel. Today, Leupold & Stevens, Inc. is headquartered in Beaverton, Oregon, United States, and remains a family-owned company focused on sport optics for hunting, shooting, and outdoor use. Its product range covers riflescopes, red dot sights, binoculars, spotting scopes, rangefinders, and thermal optics, giving the brand a broad presence across both hunting and shooting categories.

Leupold’s history in modern sporting optics is closely tied to riflescope development, including the introduction of its first riflescope, the Plainsman in 1947, and the Duplex reticle in 1962. That long background in practical field optics carries over into its binoculars, which are known for durable construction, weather resistance, and designs shaped around real hunting use rather than purely compact dimensions.
