Mauser Rifles – M12 (pre-2019) vs. M12 (2019-onward)
Mauser introduced their first M12 rifle back in 2012. Some of the design features were inspired by the already successful Sauer 101 – both rifles featured hammer-forged barrels, full-diameter bolt bodies with six forward lugs locking up directly into the barrel, and high-capacity, rugged-polymer detachable magazines. The mounting surface on the receiver was drilled and tapped, borrowing the mounting dimensions of the Mauser M98 Standard making the mounts interchangeable between the rifles. Combining all the great qualities of modern bolt-action, M12 quickly became a commercial success.

No significant changes were made to the rifle until 2019 when it underwent a complete reshaping of the mounting surface. The redesigned M12 inherited the receiver shape of Remington 700 LA, further expanding the mount-interchangeability options with a broad array of rifles. However, other structural components, apart from somewhat modernised polymer materials, remained mostly the same.

How To Choose the Suitable Mounting Solution for M12
Having the best of intentions, Mauser decided to stick with the M12 name up to this day. Showing little to no indication of the major design change in 2019, many customers were left confused or ended up buying ill-suited mounts. This article should clarify any ambiguity regarding the topic and help you choose the suitable mounting solution for either version of M12.
