Aimpoint Micro H-1 vs. Micro S-1 | Optics Trade Debates

Welcome to Optics Trade debates. In each episode, we talk about a different topic and try to answer the most common questions we receive about it. Today we are going to answer questions we get regarding H-1 and S-1 Aimpoint Micro.

Both models look very similar, S-1 was based on the H-1‘s design. H-1 can be used on any kind of rifle platform while S-1 was specifically made for shotguns.

Aimpoint had great opportunity to design red dot specifically for shotguns. They redesigned the lower part of the H-1. Now, it incorporates a special mounting solution for all the ribs on shotguns. In the set, you get three or four different parts. By combining them, you can make mounting solution for any shotgun.

The second difference is in the size of the dot. S-1 has a 6 MOA dot, it covers 6 minutes of angle, which is approximately 18 cm on 100 m. The H-1 is available with a 2 MOA dot which covers around 6cm on 100m or in 4 MOA which results in 12 cm of coverage at 100 m.

The model S-1 is designed so that can be mounted as low as possible, because when you put the shotgun on your shoulder and look over the rib, you are immediately inside of the glass of the eyepiece of S-1. With the dot mounted so low, you got the best possible line of sight and a clear vision for shooting.

The only optical difference between S-1 and H-1 is that S-1 has a bigger red dot size. Basically, there are no other differences in the terms of optics.
