Leupold VX-Freedom 3-9x40 Rimfire - Scope

• 3-9x magnification range: This classic zoom span covers close woodland shots at 3x and gives enough detail at 9x for precise aiming on small rimfire targets at longer distances.
• Fixed 60-yard parallax: Set up for typical rimfire distances, it helps keep the sight picture clean and reduces aiming error where .22 LR rifles are most often used.
• Second focal plane Rimfire-MOA reticle: The reticle stays the same visual size through the zoom range, so it remains easy to see and quick to center in changing field positions.
• Fully multicoated optics: The lens coatings improve contrast and light transmission, which helps when shooting in shaded woods or during the first and last light of the day.
• Lightweight 1-inch scope body: At 346.00 g, this riflescope keeps a rimfire rifle well balanced and easy to carry for hunting, plinking, or informal target work.

About the Leupold VX-Freedom Series

Leupold introduced the VX-Freedom series on January 22, 2018 as a more accessible riflescope line for hunters and shooters who wanted dependable field performance without moving into the company’s higher-tier ranges. The series sits as a practical, general-purpose option in the Leupold lineup, with models for rimfire, muzzleloader, and centerfire firearms, so it covers everything from small-game rifles to everyday hunting setups.

VX-Freedom riflescopes are built around a straightforward design philosophy: useful magnification ranges, familiar reticle choices, and durable construction that stands up to regular field use. Leupold describes the series as waterproof, fogproof, and shockproof, making it suitable for changing weather and rough transport. Many variants are offered with different reticles, and some models include the Custom Dial System for shooters who want a more tailored elevation solution. The series also uses Leupold’s Twilight Light Management System, which is intended to control glare and support visibility in low-light conditions, an important advantage for hunting optics used at dawn and dusk.

About the Leupold VX-Freedom 3-9x40 Rimfire - Scope

The Leupold VX-Freedom 3-9x40 Rimfire is configured for the way most rimfire rifles are actually used: short to medium distances, small targets, and a need for a sight picture that stays quick and uncomplicated. Its 3-9x40 format is a natural fit for .22 LR and similar rifles, giving a wide enough view at low power for fast target acquisition while still offering the precision needed for careful shot placement on rabbits, squirrels, or paper targets at extended rimfire ranges.

The scope uses a second focal plane reticle, which keeps the reticle visually consistent as magnification changes. In practice, that makes the aiming point easy to pick up whether the scope is set low for general field use or turned up for more deliberate shooting. The fixed 60 Yards parallax is especially relevant on a rimfire model, because it is tuned to the distances where these rifles spend most of their time. That helps the scope feel more natural on a small-caliber hunting or training rifle than a centerfire scope set around longer default distances.

Its capped turrets suit a set-and-forget setup, protecting adjustments from accidental movement when the rifle is carried in the field or stored in a vehicle or cabinet. With 60.00 MOA of elevation and windage adjustment, there is enough range for normal zeroing and common rimfire applications. The fast focus eyepiece speeds up reticle sharpening, while the fully multicoated lenses, argon-filled construction, and waterproof, fogproof, shockproof build make this a practical riflescope for regular outdoor use in changing conditions.

About Leupold

Leupold & Volpel was founded in Portland, Oregon, in 1907 by Fred Leupold and Adam Volpel. The company later introduced its first riflescope, the Plainsman in 1947, establishing a long connection with American sporting optics. In 1962, Leupold introduced the Duplex reticle, a design that became one of the most familiar hunting reticles in the field. The company moved its manufacturing plant and headquarters to Beaverton in 1968, where Leupold & Stevens, Inc. remains based today.

Leupold is family-owned and focuses on sport optics for hunting, shooting, and outdoor use. Its catalog includes VX-series riflescopes for general sporting use and Mark-series riflescopes for tactical applications, alongside red dot sights, binoculars, spotting scopes, rangefinders, and thermal optics. That broad specialization in field-ready optics is reflected in products like the VX-Freedom, which emphasize practical handling, durable construction, and clear aiming solutions for real shooting conditions.
