Zeiss Mono 4x12 T* Product description

  • Compact 4x magnification: The fixed 4x view brings distant details closer while keeping the monocular small enough to carry every day in a pocket, pack or jacket.
  • Close-focus capability: With a 0.20 m close focus distance, the Mono 4x12 T* works well not only for distant observation but also for reading fine print, labels and other nearby details.
  • ZEISS T* fully multicoated optics: The coating system improves contrast and light transmission, helping the image stay clear and comfortable to view in changing light.
  • Roof prism design: The Schmidt/Pechan prism layout keeps the body slim and easy to handle, which matters when a monocular is meant to be carried and used at a moment’s notice.
  • Nitrogen-filled weather protection: Waterproof, fogproof construction helps the optic stay usable when moving between temperatures or using it outdoors in damp conditions.

About the Zeiss Monoculars Series

The ZEISS Monoculars series is built around the idea of giving users a genuinely portable optic that still delivers the optical refinement expected from ZEISS T* coated glass. The range includes the 3x12 T*, 4x12 T*, 6x18 T*, 8x20 T* and 10x25 T*, covering everything from everyday magnifier use to longer-range observation in the field. Across the series, ZEISS combines compact dimensions with practical outdoor usability, making these monoculars suitable for nature observation, sporting events, theater use and detailed identification of distant subjects.

A defining feature of the series is its broad diopter adjustment of ±4 dpt, which helps adapt the image to different eyesight needs without adding bulk. ZEISS also describes the 4x12 T* and 6x18 T* as especially suited to close-range viewing, where they can serve as visual aids or magnifiers as well as pocket observation optics. The optical concept stays deliberately simple and fast to use: fixed magnification, compact roof-prism construction and coatings tailored to the individual lens. The result is a family of monoculars designed for users who value low weight, quick access and a clear, high-contrast image in a format that is easy to keep close at hand.

About the Zeiss Mono 4x12 T*

The Zeiss Mono 4x12 T* is the most close-range oriented model in the series, combining 4x magnification with an unusually short 0.20 m close focus distance. That makes it more versatile than a typical pocket monocular. It can be used for quick outdoor observation, but it is equally practical when examining nearby detail, reading small text or using it as a compact visual aid. This dual role is what sets the model apart within the ZEISS monocular range.

Its 12.00 mm objective lens and 3.00 mm exit pupil strike a sensible balance between brightness and size, while the 180.00 m/1000m field of view gives a broad image that is easy to acquire and follow. In practice, that wide view makes the monocular feel less restrictive than many small high-magnification designs, especially when scanning scenery or locating a subject quickly. The fully multicoated optical system helps preserve contrast and image clarity, which is particularly important in a compact optic where every bit of light efficiency matters.

The handling is equally focused on portability. At just 45.00 g and 70.00 mm in length, the Mono 4x12 T* is easy to keep on hand throughout the day. The Schmidt/Pechan roof prism design keeps the body slim, and the - 4.0 / + 4.0 dpt diopter range allows the image to be tuned to the user’s eyesight. With nitrogen filling, waterproof and fogproof construction, it is also better suited to real outdoor use than many compact monoculars intended only for occasional fair-weather viewing.

About Zeiss

ZEISS began when Carl Zeiss opened an optical and precision-mechanics workshop in Jena in 1846. Today, it is a German company headquartered in Oberkochen, Germany, with a long-standing reputation in precision optics. In sport optics, ZEISS develops binoculars, riflescopes and spotting scopes for hunting and outdoor use, with product families such as Victory RF, Victory HT, Conquest and Terra ED forming key parts of its range.

Within this field, ZEISS is particularly known for optical technologies such as T* lens coatings, used to improve transmission and contrast, and LotuTec protective coatings on selected hunting optics. The company’s range also includes specialized products such as Victory RF binoculars, which combine binocular optics with an integrated laser rangefinder and ballistic functions. That background in practical field optics is directly relevant to compact products like the Mono 4x12 T*, where image quality, mechanical precision and portability all need to work together.
