Sightron S-TAC 3-16X42

• 3-16x magnification range: Covers close woodland shots and longer cross-canyon holds in one riflescope, making it well suited to stalking, varmint work, and general-purpose hunting rifles.
• 42 mm objective with fully multicoated lenses: Delivers a bright, high-contrast image while keeping the scope slimmer and lighter than larger-objective designs, which helps balance on practical field rifles.
• Second focal plane reticle: The reticle stays the same visual size throughout the zoom range, so the sight picture remains uncluttered at higher magnification and easy to pick up at lower power.
• Side-focus parallax adjustment: Lets the shooter sharpen the image and reduce aiming error from 9.1 m to infinity without changing shooting position, which is especially useful for small targets and mixed distances.
• 30 mm one-piece tube with waterproof, fogproof and shockproof construction: Built for hard field use, stable adjustment tracking, and dependable performance in rain, temperature changes, and recoil.

About the Sightron S TAC Series

The Sightron S TAC series sits in the brand’s lineup as a practical range of riflescopes for shooters who want field-ready optics with features normally associated with more specialized target and tactical models. Sightron lists the S-TAC series as part of its current riflescope range, and the family is aimed at applications such as target shooting, varmint hunting, and hunting. That broad role is reflected in the variety of configurations available across the series, including standard hunting-style models, first focal plane and second focal plane versions, service-rifle formats, and AR-oriented designs.

A defining characteristic of the series is Sightron’s ExacTrack windage and elevation adjustment system, paired with resettable-to-zero turrets on S-TAC models. In practice, that gives the series a more deliberate emphasis on repeatable adjustment and straightforward return to a known zero. Reticle choices vary by model and include simple hunting patterns as well as MOA-based designs for shooters who prefer hold references. Across the range, the design philosophy is clear: versatile magnification ranges, durable 30 mm tube construction, and optical systems intended to serve equally well on hunting rifles and on rifles used for regular range work.

About the Sightron S-TAC 3-16X42

The Sightron S-TAC 3-16X42 is built as a crossover riflescope for shooters who divide their time between hunting and deliberate range work. Its 3-16x magnification range gives it a wide operating window: low power is useful when scanning for game or shooting from improvised positions, while the upper end provides the precision needed for small targets, load development, and longer shots where exact aiming matters. The 42 mm objective lens keeps the scope more compact than larger-front-end designs, which helps maintain a practical rifle profile without giving up useful low-light performance.

This model uses a second focal plane reticle, so the reticle remains visually consistent as magnification changes. That is especially helpful for hunters and general-purpose shooters who want a familiar sight picture at every setting. The side-focus system adjusts from 9.1 m to infinity, allowing the image to be tuned for sharpness and helping reduce parallax error when shooting at varied distances. A fast-focus eyepiece speeds up reticle sharpening to the shooter’s eye, which is useful when moving between users or changing from field to range use.

The mechanical layout is equally practical. The scope uses a 30 mm tube and offers generous internal adjustment, with 71.00 MOA of elevation and windage travel. Its target-style resettable turrets are suited to shooters who dial corrections rather than relying only on holdover. With fully multicoated lenses, nitrogen filling, and waterproof, fogproof, and shockproof construction, this riflescope is designed to stay usable through changing weather, recoil, and regular transport in the field.

About Sightron

Sightron was originally based in Miami, Florida, and later moved its headquarters to North Carolina. The company began with red-dot sights before expanding into hunting and target riflescopes, and it also produces binoculars and spotting scopes. That background helps explain why Sightron’s catalog covers both straightforward field optics and more adjustment-focused models for precision shooting.

Within riflescopes, Sightron is known for series such as SII, SIIB Big Sky, SIII, S-TAC, and SV. The company’s better-known proprietary features include the ExacTrack system for windage and elevation adjustment and Zact-7 Revcoat lens multicoating technology. These are directly relevant to the riflescope category because they reflect Sightron’s emphasis on repeatable mechanical adjustment and dependable optical performance. In practical terms, Sightron has built its reputation around riflescopes for hunting and target shooting rather than around purely cosmetic feature sets.
