Shield Reflex Mini Sight Sub Compact RMSsc Product description

  • Sub-Compact Low-Drag Body: The micro-compact housing measures only 40.8 × 19 × 21.5 mm and weighs 16.1 g (without battery). It reduces printing under clothing and snagging during the draw on concealed carry and small-frame handguns.
  • Always-On with Automatic Brightness: The sight has no buttons or controls. A photodiode samples ambient light thousands of times per second and adjusts the dot intensity automatically, so the dot is ready the moment the pistol is drawn.
  • SHIELD Standard Footprint: The RMSsc uses the same SHIELD footprint as the manufacturer's other pistol optics, which is supported by 100+ mounting solutions. This simplifies installation on optics-ready slides and allows switching between SHIELD sights without new mounts.
  • Glass Lens with Colour-Free Coating: The square glass lens has a hard, anti-reflective, colour-free coating. It provides a clear view of the target without the tint common to many reflex sights and minimises the visible signature of the optic.

ABOUT THE SHIELD RMS SERIES

The Shield RMS (Reflex Mini Sight) Range is SHIELD's family of open reflex sights for handguns. The original RMS was introduced in 2016 at the IPSC European Handgun Championship. The range grew out of the company's long involvement in practical shooting and its early work on mini red dot sights for pistols.

The series covers several body sizes and purposes:

  • The RMS2 and RMS D for full-size pistols.
  • The RMSc (Compact) for single-stack and EDC handguns.
  • The RMSsc (Sub Compact) for the smallest concealed carry pistols.
  • The RMSw, a gasket-sealed waterproof variant.
  • The RMSx, with an enlarged lens for competition shooters.

This allows users to match the optic to the slide width and intended use, from everyday concealed carry to dynamic sport shooting.

A key characteristic of the RMS family is the SHIELD standard footprint, which provides backward and forward compatibility across the manufacturer's pistol optics. Models are available with glass lenses, and dot sizes are typically offered in 4 MOA and 8 MOA options. The smaller dot favours precise shot placement, while the larger dot is quicker to pick up at close range.

The sights use aluminium housings, LED light sources and compact, low-profile designs. Keeping the sight low on the slide supports a natural presentation of the handgun and, depending on the mounting, co-witnessing with iron sights.

ABOUT THE MODEL (SHIELD RMSsc REFLEX MINI SIGHT SUB COMPACT)

The Shield RMSsc Reflex Mini Sight Sub Compact is the first model in SHIELD's new line of micro-compact red dots designed for concealed carry and small-format handguns. The body was designed around size and concealability. Its compact, rounded profile creates minimal drag and a reduced print signature, which is important for EDC users who carry the pistol close to the body every day.

The RMSsc has no controls. The sight is always on, so there is no need to press a button or rely on motion activation before aiming; the user simply draws, aims and shoots. Removing the controls also removes potential failure points.

Brightness is handled by an automatic brightness adjustment system. A photodiode constantly measures ambient light, and the dot intensity ranges from a night vision compatible lowest setting to a level visible against the sky in bright daylight.

The sight is available with a 4 MOA dot (actual 3.25 MOA) or an 8 MOA dot (actual 6.5 MOA). The smaller dot suits users who prioritise precision at longer handgun distances. The larger dot is faster to acquire in close-range defensive situations.

The square glass lens has no magnification and no coloured coatings, so the view through the sight remains clear. The minimal frame design keeps the field of view largely unobstructed, supporting situational awareness with both eyes open.

The low height over bore axis allows co-witnessing with standard-height iron sights when the sight is mounted directly on the slide or with SHIELD's low-profile mounting kit.

The CR1632 battery is fitted from underneath. It is rated for 9,000 hours in average daylight, which is roughly one year of average use.

The housing is made from anodised 6082-T6 aluminium, which offers good corrosion resistance and high strength. The sight is rated IP67 for immersion to 3 ft for 30 minutes.

ABOUT SHIELD

SHIELD Sights is a British manufacturer of red dot sights, founded in the early 1980s by Jeremy White, an active IPSC competitor. The company's background includes specialist products for the military, among them suppressors for the Accuracy International sniper rifle used by the UK MOD.

SHIELD was involved in developing some of the first mini red dot sights in the 1990s. It later built mini red dots for other brands, including JP Enterprises (JPoint) and the Trijicon RedDot. The company also developed the CQB (Close Quarter Battlesight) for the UK armed forces.

Since 2014, SHIELD has focused on pistol mini sights, including the RMS, SMS and AMS ranges, alongside rifle sights, mounts and accessories. The company is ISO 9001 certified and manufactures its products at its facility in Crewkerne, Somerset, England, keeping production within the UK.
