Pachmayr D550 Trap Pad

• Decelerator material: The D550 uses Pachmayr’s recoil-reducing compound to soften felt recoil, helping keep heavy loads more manageable during long trap sessions and reducing fatigue over repeated shots.
• Trap-style profile: Its pronounced trap pad shape helps the butt settle into the shoulder in a consistent position, which supports repeatable gun mounting and steadier follow-up shots.
• 1.10″ thickness: This pad adds meaningful cushioning without making the stock excessively bulky, giving shooters a practical balance between recoil control and handling.
• Grind-to-fit design: The pad is made to be fitted to the stock contours, allowing a cleaner installation and a more integrated finish on rifles or shotguns set up for regular range use.
• Made in the USA: Domestic manufacture and Pachmayr’s long focus on recoil pads make this a dependable choice for shooters who want a proven replacement pad rather than a generic accessory.

About the Pachmayr Accessories Series

Pachmayr Accessories covers a broad range of shooting components built around practical handling improvements, with a strong emphasis on grips and recoil pads for rifles and shotguns. The series reflects a long product tradition that reaches back to Pachmayr’s first recoil pad in 1949, and it remains focused on parts that solve everyday field and range problems rather than adding unnecessary complexity.

Within the line, recoil pads are a particularly important category. They are intended for shooters who want better control, less felt recoil, and a more secure shoulder mount on hunting rifles, target guns, and shotguns. The series includes different pad shapes and materials to suit different applications, from general-purpose field use to dedicated trap shooting. Across the range, the design philosophy is straightforward: durable materials, familiar stock-compatible forms, and recoil management that improves comfort without changing the character of the firearm. That makes the series well suited to shooters upgrading an older stock, refining a competition setup, or replacing a worn factory pad with a more purpose-built option.

About the Pachmayr D550 Trap Pad

The Pachmayr D550 Trap Pad is a purpose-built recoil pad for shooters who want a more controlled shoulder mount and better recoil absorption from a trap-style stock setup. Its defining feature is the use of Pachmayr Decelerator material, a well-known rubber compound chosen to reduce the sharpness of recoil impulse. In practice, that matters most when shooting heavier loads or spending long periods on the range, where reduced shoulder fatigue helps maintain a more consistent mount and smoother shooting rhythm.

The D550 also uses a trap-style face profile, which is shaped to support repeatable placement against the shoulder. That is especially useful in trap and other target disciplines where consistency from shot to shot matters as much as comfort. The 1.10″ thickness provides enough material to cushion recoil effectively while still keeping the stock manageable in length and balance.

This model is also a grind-to-fit pad, which allows it to be matched more closely to the stock dimensions for a neater installation and a more secure finished feel. With its rubber construction, black finish, and substantial build, the D550 is a practical upgrade for rifles and similar shooting setups where recoil control, repeatable gun mounting, and long-session comfort are more important than cosmetic detail alone.

About Pachmayr

Pachmayr was founded by Frank Pachmayr in 1929 and built its reputation around practical firearm accessories that improve handling and shooting comfort. The company introduced its first recoil pad in 1949, then expanded further when its rubber handgun grips entered the market in the early 1960s. Over time, Pachmayr became especially well known for recoil-reducing products and grip designs used by hunters, target shooters, and gunsmiths.

Today, the brand’s range includes handgun grips, recoil pads, gunsmithing tools, and other shooting accessories. Pachmayr is also closely associated with Decelerator material, which remains one of its best-known technologies for managing felt recoil. The brand joined Lyman in 1996, and its manufacturing plant relocated to Prescott Valley, Arizona, in 2014. In this category, Pachmayr stands out for long-running, field-proven designs that focus on fit, control, and durability rather than unnecessary complication.
