Elcan Specter DR 1/4x32

• Instant dual-role magnification: The 1x/4x switchable design lets the sight move from close-quarters work to more deliberate mid-range aiming without changing optics, which helps keep handling simple under pressure.
• Constant eye relief and sight picture: The 70 mm eye relief and stable viewing geometry support faster target acquisition when changing magnification, especially on rifles used in dynamic shooting positions.
• Wide field of view at 1x: With up to 41.60 m/100m, the optic gives strong situational awareness for fast transitions, while the narrower 10.40 m/100m view at 4x supports more precise shot placement.
• Compact, duty-ready construction: At 153.00 mm long and 620.00 g, the sight stays relatively compact for a dual-role optic and is built to handle hard field use with waterproof, fogproof and shockproof construction.
• Simple illuminated aiming system: The red illumination improves reticle visibility in changing light, while the fixed-parallax setup keeps operation straightforward for users who want a fast, uncluttered tactical riflescope.

About the Elcan Specter DR Series

The Elcan Specter DR series is a family of dual-role optical day sights built to combine close-quarters speed with more precise aiming at distance in one housing. Rather than using a conventional continuously variable zoom system, the series is defined by its ability to switch instantly between two magnification modes with a lever. That approach suits users who want a clear, repeatable change in capability without altering the basic handling of the sight.

A key characteristic of the series is that boresight, eye relief and sight picture remain constant when magnification is changed. In practice, that helps the shooter maintain a familiar head position and visual presentation instead of adapting to a different optic feel between settings. Illuminated reticle and red-dot aiming options are part of the Specter DR concept, and the family includes both 1x/4x and 1.5x/6x variants for different engagement distances and rifle roles. Reticle configurations are also offered for 5.56 mm and 7.62 mm NATO applications, which reflects the series' military-oriented design philosophy. Overall, the Specter DR line is aimed at users who need a rugged tactical optic that can cover fast, short-range work and more deliberate shots with minimal complication.

About the Elcan Specter DR 1/4x32

The Elcan Specter DR 1/4x32 is the compact 1x/4x32 member of the Specter DR family, intended for rifles that need to move between close-range speed and practical mid-range precision. At 1x, the optic supports rapid target acquisition and a broad view of the environment, helped by its 41.60 m/100m field of view. Switching to 4x gives the shooter more target detail and a steadier aiming reference for more deliberate shots, while the sight keeps the same basic visual relationship thanks to its constant eye relief and sight picture concept.

This model uses a 32.00 mm objective lens and a fixed parallax arrangement, which keeps operation direct and uncomplicated. The reticle sits in the second focal plane, so its apparent size stays consistent as the magnification mode changes. That can make the aiming pattern easier to read quickly, especially for users who prioritize a familiar reticle appearance over scaling behavior. Red illumination improves visibility in dim light or against darker backgrounds, and the CR2032 power supply keeps battery replacement simple.

Mechanically, the sight is built for demanding service. Its waterproof, fogproof and shockproof construction, together with a working temperature range of -40 to +65 °C, suits rifles used across varied climates and hard field conditions. At 153.00 mm in length and 620.00 g in weight, it remains compact enough for tactical carbines while still offering the robustness expected from a military-style optical day sight. The integrated mounting provision also supports a straightforward installation on the host rifle.

About Elcan

Elcan, now operating as Raytheon ELCAN, is based in Midland, Ontario, Canada and focuses on high-precision optical and electro-optical systems for military and commercial customers. The company became part of Raytheon in 1997, when Raytheon acquired the business from Hughes Aircraft Company. Within this field, Elcan is especially associated with Specter rifle sights and other targeting systems designed for demanding service use.

Its technical strengths include thin-film coatings and multispectral system design and manufacturing, along with broader expertise in man-portable weapon sights and platform-mounted turrets. That background is relevant to tactical optics such as the Specter DR, where optical clarity, mechanical repeatability and environmental durability matter as much as raw magnification. Elcan's reputation in this category comes from building robust sighting systems for professional users who need dependable performance in difficult operating conditions.
