EAW pivot mount, 30 mm, Sako 85 M Product description

  • Repeatable pivot design: The EAW pivot mount lets a riflescope be removed and reattached without changing zero, which is valuable when switching between optics or transporting the rifle more compactly.
  • 30 mm ring interface: Built for scopes with a 30 mm main tube, this version suits many modern hunting optics while giving a secure, correctly matched clamping surface.
  • Steel construction: The steel build favors long-term rigidity and wear resistance, helping the mount maintain alignment under regular field use and repeated mounting cycles.
  • Rifle-specific Sako fit: Designed for the Sako 85 M platform, this mount provides a model-specific base geometry that supports stable installation and dependable return-to-zero performance.
  • Modular EAW concept: As part of the EAW Pivot Mounts family, it follows EAW’s modular approach, making it easier to configure a traditional detachable mounting solution around the rifle and optic combination.

About the EAW Pivot Mounts Series

EAW Pivot Mounts are one of the company’s best-known mounting systems and have been part of the EAW range for more than 50 years. The series is built for common rifles and long guns, with the central idea of giving the shooter a detachable scope mount that can be removed and reattached while maintaining the rifle’s point of impact. That makes the system especially relevant for hunting rifles that may need to alternate between different optics or between an optic and open sights.

A defining characteristic of the series is its adjustable front and rear mount-foot fit, which supports precise installation and repeatable engagement. In practical use, that means a secure lock-up combined with the convenience of a detachable mount. EAW also positions the pivot system as a good choice for rifles that may carry a second scope or aiming device, and the family includes variants for different firearm types, including a lever-operated version for break-action firearms. Across the range, the emphasis is on mechanical precision, repeatability and a traditional mounting layout that remains popular on premium hunting rifles.

About the EAW pivot mount, 30 mm, Sako 85 M

The EAW pivot mount, 30 mm, Sako 85 M is a rifle-specific mounting solution for pairing a 30 mm riflescope with the Sako 85 M action. Its main advantage is not simply that it holds the optic, but that it does so in a way that supports repeatable removal and reinstallation. For hunters who may want to take the scope off for transport, use a different optic for another hunting setup, or keep the rifle easier to handle when stored, that repeatability is the real practical value of the pivot system.

The use of steel is important here because a detachable mount depends on consistent engagement surfaces over time. A rigid steel construction helps the mount resist wear at the locking and bearing points, which matters when the optic is mounted and removed repeatedly. In the field, that translates into a mounting system that favors stable alignment and dependable return-to-zero behavior rather than simple convenience alone.

Because this version is made specifically for the Sako 85 M, it suits a rifle platform often chosen for serious hunting use, where reliability matters as much as optical quality. The 30 mm ring size also makes it a practical match for many modern hunting riflescopes, which often use 30 mm tubes to provide a strong mechanical interface and room for robust internal adjustment systems. Overall, this EAW mount is aimed at shooters who want a traditional detachable mounting solution with precise fit, solid material choice and repeatable handling.

About EAW

EAW traces its history to 1919, when Ernst Apel founded the company in Würzburg, Germany. The business produced its first riflescope mounts in 1945, and since 1951 the development and production of scope mounts have been its primary focus. That long specialization is a key reason EAW is closely associated with traditional German detachable mounting systems.

Over time, the company expanded its manufacturing base from Würzburg to Gerbrunn in 1970, and Ernst Apel GmbH is now headquartered in Eibelstadt, Germany. EAW’s product range includes pivot mounts, slide-on or roll-off mounts, and claw mounts for riflescopes, reflecting a strong concentration on mechanical mounting solutions for hunting and sporting rifles. The company also offers thermal imaging devices, but its reputation remains especially tied to precision-made scope mounts built in Germany.

Dear Optics team,

I purchased eaw pivot mount fo sako 85 but it seems that rifle has to be drilled in order to complete the installation ?

No, the rifle does not need to be drilled. However, a qualified gunsmith may need to adjust the mount to ensure a proper fit on the rifle.

I have a Sako 85 Grizzly in 9.3x62. Should I choose the Magnum EAW version for that caliber? Should I choose 0 or 26mm KR extension?

Regards
Henrik

by Henrik Danø Sørensen

Dear Sir!

For your Sako 85 Grizzly in 9.3×62, the M EAW version is the correct choice.
For standard riflescopes, we recommend KR = 0 mm (no forward extension) — this gives the usual eye-relief geometry for most scopes.

Thank you for your understanding.

I have purchased this mount-base and mount-ring for my Sako M85 Finlight2. 308win. I found this front mount-base has a bolt and 2 lockup screws to adjvst direction of scope center line. My question is this adjustable part is already adjusted inthe factory or not. Thank you for your kindness.

by Reiji

Dear Sir,

thank you for contacting us.

The mount is not adjusted properly in the majority of cases. We would advise contacting the gunsmith in order to help you install the mount.

Hi, Folks, I'm looking for a EAW Pivot Monts for my Sako 85. That kind of mount needs a drilling and thread to install that mont?

by Tácito

Dear Sir,

thank you for your inquiry. This mount is made for Sako 85 M's dovetail and clamps it firmly, there is no drilling/threading required.

Hi, I’m looking at a eaw pivot mount to fit a sako 85 kodiak in 375 h&h. I’m in New Zealand and there’s no one dealing them here to ask if they are suitable for a 375 h&h. I’m wanting to mount a Swarovski z5 in it but I’m unsure on the different bh and kr meanings and sizes to fit. Thanks for you time

by Lloyd

This product will fit, however, due to a heavy caliber we would strongly advise purchasing the "Magnum" version of this Pivot mount which is suitable for these calibers respectively. The BH height of your riflescope should be approximately 17 mm, while the KR should be 26 mm in order to mount your Swarovski scope comfortably.
