Alpen Optics Teton 10x42 ED Product description

  • ED glass with Abbe/Koenig prisms: The optical system is built to reduce color fringing and preserve fine detail, which helps when judging antlers, reading plumage detail, or separating an animal from a busy background.
  • 95 % light transmission: High transmission supports a bright, usable image in the first and last light of the day, when hunting and wildlife observation often become most demanding.
  • Magnesium housing: The body keeps weight under control while remaining rigid and durable, so the binoculars stay comfortable on long walks without feeling delicate in rough field use.
  • Waterproof, nitrogen-filled construction: Sealed and fogproof internals keep the view clear when moving between temperatures or working in wet weather, reducing downtime in changing conditions.
  • 10x42 configuration: This format gives enough reach for open-country scanning while keeping a practical balance of field of view, brightness, and hand-held stability for all-round use.

About the Alpen Optics Teton Series

The Alpen Optics Teton series sits in the brand’s binocular range as a practical step into higher-grade field optics for users who want more than entry-level performance without moving into highly specialized premium models. The series is aimed at hunting, birdwatching, hiking, and general outdoor observation, where image quality, weather resistance, and manageable carry weight matter just as much as raw magnification. Teton binoculars are defined by a combination of ED glass, Abbe/Koenig roof prisms, and fully multi-coated optics, a specification set chosen to improve contrast, color fidelity, and low-light usability in real field conditions.

Mechanically, the series focuses on a magnesium housing, central focusing, and a sealed nitrogen-filled build for dependable use in rain, cold mornings, and shifting temperatures. The optical design favors a bright, neutral image rather than an overly narrow specialist setup, which makes the Teton line well suited to users who divide their time between woodland, open terrain, and longer observation sessions. In practical terms, the series is built for people who need one binocular that can cover several outdoor roles with consistent handling and dependable optical clarity.

About the Alpen Optics Teton 10x42 ED

The Alpen Optics Teton 10x42 ED is the all-round model in the series for users who need extra reach without giving up too much field awareness. Its 10x magnification helps pull distant detail closer for hillside glassing, shoreline observation, and longer-range birding, while the 42 mm objective lenses keep enough light-gathering ability for dawn, dusk, and shaded woodland use. With a 4.20 mm exit pupil and 16.00 mm eye relief, it remains practical for extended viewing and comfortable for many eyeglass wearers.

Optically, the combination of ED glass, roof Abbe/Koenig prisms, and fully multicoated lenses is aimed at producing a clean, high-contrast image with reduced chromatic aberration. That matters in the field because fine edges stay better defined and natural colors remain easier to interpret when identifying species or reading terrain detail. The stated 95 % light transmission supports a bright image in difficult light, while the 113.75 m/1000m field of view still gives enough width for tracking movement and scanning efficiently.

The handling is equally field-oriented. A magnesium body keeps the binocular robust without excessive bulk, and the central focusing system allows quick adjustment when switching from nearby cover to distant subjects. Diopter adjustment on both eyepieces helps fine-tune the view, while the waterproof, fogproof, nitrogen-filled construction supports reliable use in wet weather and rapid temperature changes. For hunting optics, hiking binoculars, or general wildlife observation, this model is built around a balanced mix of reach, brightness, and durability.

About Alpen Optics

Alpen Optics was founded by Tim Gardner in December 1996, and the company introduced its first products in 1997. Its history identifies Rancho Cucamonga, California as the company’s headquarters. Alpen Optics focuses on field-ready observation and aiming equipment, with a product range that includes binoculars, spotting scopes, riflescopes, and thermal optics. Within its binocular lineup, the brand organizes products into families such as Apex XP, Teton, and Rainier, each aimed at a different balance of optical performance and application.

The company’s later development included a change in ownership when Explore Scientific acquired Alpen Optics’ trademarks and designs in 2018. Across the binocular category, Alpen Optics has been associated with features such as ED glass, specialized prism coatings, and model-specific optical systems designed for practical outdoor use rather than purely catalog-driven specifications. That background makes the brand particularly relevant to users looking for hunting optics and general observation binoculars with a clear emphasis on usable field performance.

not overly heavy

Beautiful looking with contoured barrels and small rubber circles that guide my fingers to the
focus wheel. Despite the Abbe-Koening prisms, it’s not overly heavy, and views are especially
crisp and bright even at dusk or overcast weather. Diopter is non-locking but stays in place. Two
cons: 1) focus wheel is fast, picky, and can easily over shoot focal points, 2) ocular lenses are
small (approx. 19 mm); small for an instrument at this price point. However, its beautiful view
makes up for these drawbacks.
